The clinical validity of the Chinese Personality Assessment Inventory (CPAI; F. M. Cheung, K. Leung, et al., 1996) was examined in 2 studies involving a group of 167 male prisoners in Hong Kong and a group of 339 psychiatric patients in China. Elevated scores on the clinical scales were obtained for the clinical samples. Logistic regression analyses confirmed that the CPAI scales were useful in differentiating between male prisoner and the Hong Kong male normative sample and between psychiatric patients and a random sample of normal adults in China. Multivariate analyses of variance results showed significant differences on the CPAI clinical scales and personality scales among subgroups of psychiatric patients with diagnoses of bipolar, schizophrenic, and neurotic disorders. The usefulness of an indigenous personality inventory is discussed.  相似文献

40 schizophrenic subjects, divided into paranoid/non-paranoid categories and 14 normal controls were presented a task which involved making "same-different" judgments during random presentations of a series of visual comparison stimuli with a standard which represented the midpoint of the stimulus continuum. Using Sternberg's Choice RT paradigm for studying the locus of cognitive deficit, difficulty at the response-selection stage was manipulated while holding other stages constant. It was predicted that paranoids would have shorter RTs at easy decision points and longer RTs at difficult decision points relative to non-paranoids. The directions of the differences were as predicted but did not attain statistical significance. Both schizophrenic groups, compared to normals, made significantly fewer "same" responses on those trials where the comparison and standard were most similar.  相似文献

Two experiments were designed to test information extraction capacity from briefly shown photographs depicting simple familiar objects and facial/affective stimuli. Photographs were presented tachistoscopically at six exposure times, 1 sec, 200 msec, 40 msec, 20 msec, 4 msec, 2 msec, to chronic schizophrenic patients, general medical patients, and nonpatient control subjects. Experiment 1 was conducted using the number of correct responses (true scores) and experiment 2 using the number of trials taken (error scores) to identify the target stimuli, as the dependent measures. In experiment 1, schizophrenics did not differ from general medical patients but both were inferior to nonpatient controls in identifying brief visual stimuli. However, in experiment 2, schizophrenics required significantly more trials than general medical patients, who in turn required significantly more trials than nonpatient controls in identifying brief visual stimuli.  相似文献

Thresholds for auditory motion detectability were measured in a darkened anechoic chamber while subjects were adapted to horizontally moving sound sources of various velocities. All stimuli were 500-Hz lowpass noises presented at a level of 55 dBA. The threshold measure employed was the minimum audible movement angle (MAMA)--that is, the minimum angle a horizontally moving sound must traverse to be just discriminable from a stationary sound. In an adaptive, two-interval forced-choice procedure, trials occurred every 2-5 sec (Experiment 1) or every 10-12 sec (Experiment 2). Intertrial time was "filled" with exposure to the adaptor--a stimulus that repeatedly traversed the subject's front hemifield at ear level (distance: 1.7 m) at a constant velocity (-150 degrees/sec to +150 degrees/sec) during a run. Average MAMAs in the control condition, in which the adaptor was stationary (0 degrees/sec,) were 2.4 degrees (Experiment 1) and 3.0 degrees (Experiment 2). Three out of 4 subjects in each experiment showed significantly elevated MAMAs (by up to 60%), with some adaptors relative to the control condition. However, there were large intersubject differences in the shape of the MAMA versus adaptor velocity functions. This loss of sensitivity to motion that most subjects show after exposure to moving signals is probably one component underlying the auditory motion aftereffect (Grantham, 1989), in which judgments of the direction of moving sounds are biased in the direction opposite to that of a previously presented adaptor.  相似文献

An experimental group (n = 40) of normal female undergraduates underwent a Velten type of depressive mood-induction procedure (DMIP) and was compared with a control group (n = 40) which underwent a neutral mood-induction procedure (NMIP). Ss were selected on the basis of scores on the EPI to give a composition in each group of 10 neurotic introverts (NI), 10 neurotic extraverts (NE), 10 stable introverts (SI) and 10 stable extraverts (SE). Depressive mood was assessed before and after each MIP using a measure of psychomotor retardation (writing speed). An ANOVA applied to residualized change scores on the writing-speed measure showed that the DMIP produced a significantly greater depressive effect on mood than the NMIP and that neurotic Ss displayed a significantly greater degree of depressive deficit than stable Ss regardless of type of MIP undertaken. However, a significant interaction between neuroticism and type of MIP showed that neurotic Ss were especially prone to depressive deficits in the DMIP. No effects of extraversion/introversion on susceptibility to depressed mood were detected. The results are discussed in terms of Eysenck and Gray's theory of personality predisposition to depression and it is suggested that the Velten technique may have limitations for the induction of depressed mood.  相似文献

Process and content issues were evaluated during the first six months of an outpatient schizophrenic group. Compared with groups composed of neurotic and characterological patients, the schizophrenic group scored higher in the Avoiding dimension of the Group Climate Questionnaire (GCQ-S). There was more cohesion and less interpersonal conflict as time went on. Although topics related to engagement and differentiation were discussed, there was no obvious GCQ-S evidence of these first two stages of group development. However, the data supported the presence of stage 3 (individuation) during sessions 20–26. Interpersonal topics dominated the group discussions, followed by issues involving reality-testing, expression of emotions, and advice-giving.The authors wish to thank Dr. K. In the study reported here an attempt was made to confirm, on a more heterogeneous group of civilian patients, some previous work on sedation threshold and spiral after-effect in young military patients. Sedation threshold and spiral after-effect data were collected in thirty-eight neurotic and nine psychotic patients. The main findings of the study were as follows: (1) The practicability and reliability of the sedation threshold technique used is not restricted to the experimental setting in which it was originally devised. The method can on the contrary be applied under a variety of clinical conditions. (2) No significant differences were found in the uniformly high sedation threshold and spiral aftereffect scores of patients suffering from neurotic depression, obsessional neurosis, and chronic anxiety. Further, civilian dysthymics as a whole did not differ significantly on either test from military dysthymics. The previous work on neurotics was thus confirmed. (3) Previous findings (with military psychotics) of a significant negative correlation between sedation threshold and spiral after-effect were confirmed in the present group of schizophrenic patients.

The advantages of a psychophysiological approach to personality were reaffirmed and the possible usefulness of the sedation threshold and spiral after-effect as tools for differential diagnosis was discussed.  相似文献

The short form of the group climate questionnaire (GCQ-S) was used to evaluate process in three 12-session therapy groups for outpatient schizophrenics. Results showed no difference on the Engaged dimension between the short-term schizophrenic groups and either a normative sample of outpatient neurotic groups or the first 26 sessions of a long-term outpatient schizophrenic group. However, the short-term groups scored significantly lower (p<.001) on the Avoiding and Conflict dimensions as compared with either long-term sample. The session-to-session GCQ-S dimension pattern did not support the presence of sequential group stages, but there was a tendency for the Engaged scores to increase and the Avoiding and Conflict scores to decrease as time went on.The authors gratefully acknowledge K. Two experiments following identical procedure except for the feedback duration (respectively, 2 sec and 1.5 sec) and the intertrial interval (respectively, 1 sec and 3 sec) are compared with respect to three sequential statistics whose theoretical interpretation is related to the degree of optimality of information processing. The results indicate that the values of the theoretical parameters representing the efficiency of information processing, the consistency of trial-by-trial decisions, and the efficacy of reinforcement are greater in the 3-sec interval condition. This is interpreted as a tentative explanation of the well-known effect of intertrial interval on the difficulty of the task with respect to the mean number of trials to criterion.  相似文献

This study investigated whether external locus of control, as measured with the Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, is a specific feature of agoraphobia or whether it characterizes neurosis in general. Forty agoraphobic patients, 81 nonagoraphobic neurotic controls, and 49 normal controls completed the Dutch version of the Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. Agoraphobic patients were found to have a more external orientation as compared to the normal controls, but as a group, they could not be identified as being different from neurotic controls.This study was supported in part by a grant from the Dutch Organization for Fundamental Research (ZWO/Psychon 560-268-001).  相似文献

Self-controlling practice implies a process of decision making, which suggests that the options in a self-controlled practice condition could affect learners. The number of task components with no fixed position in a movement sequence may affect the way learners self-control their practice. A 200-cm coincident timing track with 90 light-emitting diodes (LEDs)--the first and the last LEDs being the warning and the target lights, respectively--was set so that the apparent speed of the light along the track was 1.33 m/sec. Participants were required to touch six sensors sequentially, the last one coincidently with the lighting of the target light (timing task). Group 1 (n = 55) had only one constraint, and were instructed to touch the sensors in any order, except for the last sensor which had to be the one positioned close to the target light. Group 2 (n = 53) had three constraints: the first two and the last sensor to be touched. Both groups practiced the task until timing error was less than 30 msec. on three consecutive trials. There were no statistically significant differences between groups in the number of trials needed to reach the performance criterion, but (a) participants in Group 2 created fewer sequences compared to Group 1, and (b) were more likely to use the same sequence throughout the learning process. The number of options for a movement sequence affected the way learners self-controlled their practice, but had no effect on the amount of practice to reach criterion performance.  相似文献

The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, standardized in Bangladesh, was administered to a group of 358 psychiatric patients—109 male and 108 female neurotics and 78 male and 63 female psychotics. The neurotic Ss were analysed separately according to sex, and were also divided into groups according to psychiatric nosology. The major findings that clearly emerged from the study of neurotic individuals were that they returned very elevated N scores and depressed E scores as against the norms, while the depressive patients of both sexes gave the lowest E scores. Most of the psychotic Ss of both sexes were diagnosed schizophrenic. The major finding of the investigation of psychotic individuals was that they returned much elevated scores on the psychoticism scale as compared with norms, and they also gave low E and high N scores. It is suggested that the EPQ be used to promote a better understanding and more efficacious therapeutic intervention of the psychiatrically ill person in this culture.  相似文献

36 normal, 36 schizophrenic, and 36 neurologically impaired Ss were compared for their ability to temporally discriminate brief auditory stimuli. The experimental task was the absolute judgment of 3, 5, or 9 stimuli ranging in duration from 0.10 to 1.90 sec. Half of the Ss in each group were "assisted" by the presentation of a repeated mid-series anchor. The interval between the presentation of the anchor and the variable stimuli was varied. With the addition of a mid-series anchor, normal Ss demonstrated an increase in information transmission and a decrease in response stereotypy; schizophrenics demonstrated a slight decrease in information transmission and a slight increase in response stereotypy; neurologically impaired Ss were essentially unaffected. Changes in interstimulus interval on the anchored judgment task did not influence information transmission.  相似文献

Optimal decision criterion placement maximizes expected reward and requires sensitivity to the category base rates (prior probabilities) and payoffs (costs and benefits of incorrect and correct responding). When base rates are unequal, human decision criterion is nearly optimal, but when payoffs are unequal, suboptimal decision criterion placement is observed, even when the optimal decision criterion is identical in both cases. A series of studies are reviewed that examine the generality of this finding, and a unified theory of decision criterion learning is described (Maddox & Dodd, 2001). The theory assumes that two critical mechanisms operate in decision criterion learning. One mechanism involves competition between reward and accuracy maximization: The observer attempts to maximize reward, as instructed, but also places some importance on accuracy maximization. The second mechanism involves a flat-maxima hypothesis that assumes that the observer's estimate of the reward-maximizing decision criterion is determined from the steepness of the objective reward function that relates expected reward to decision criterion placement. Experiments used to develop and test the theory require each observer to complete a large number of trials and to participate in all conditions of the experiment. This provides maximal control over the reinforcement history of the observer and allows a focus on individual behavioral profiles. The theory is applied to decision criterion learning problems that examine category discriminability, payoff matrix multiplication and addition effects, the optimal classifier's independence assumption, and different types of trial-by-trial feedback. In every case the theory provides a good account of the data, and, most important, provides useful insights into the psychological processes involved in decision criterion learning.  相似文献

Male college students made verbal estimations of time intervals ranging from five to 80 sec on six blocks of five trials. Some subjects were given information feedback (IF) about judgment errors after each trial and the remaining subjects were given no IF. Judgments of the no-IF group changed from initial overestimations to final underestimations of the intervals across blocks of trials. Judgments of the IF group did not significantly change across blocks. In the no-IF group, each block of trials correlated strongest with immediately adjacent blocks; i.e., the correlation matrix had a superdiagonal form. Interblock correlations were weakened by IF, and the superdiagonal form was not obtained in the matrix of the IF group. Previous theories of the superdiagonal form are considered inadequate to explain these results. An alternative hypothesis, based on changing decision criteria with blocks, which IF attenuates, is proposed to explain these data.  相似文献

In two experiments the effect of loud noise on a simple vibrotactile learning task was studied. After learning the task to criterion, 10 male and 10 female Ss received two pairs of test trials, one without noise, and one in continuous noise (a 1,000 cps pure tone at 90 dB SPL). An additional 10 male and 10 female Ss learned the same task and also received the same two pairs of test trials, but instead of receiving continuous noise for the second condition, they received an intermittent noise (random numbers presented at 2 sec intervals at 95 dB SPL). In the first experiment noise had a significant effect on the performance of the 20-subject group and also on the females in the group. Noise did not significantly affect the performance of males. In the second experiment noise had no significant effect on either males or females.  相似文献

Twenty schizophrenic patients, 10 depressed control patients, and 20 normal control subjects were compared in a forced-choice, target-detection method for assessing the span of apprehension. The detection task required the subject to report which of 2 target letters was presented among 7 other (distractor) letters. Performance accuracy was examined as a function of target location and whether the distractor letters were masked after their presentation. The backward masking of the distractors improved target-detection accuracy of both control groups but reduced accuracy of the schizophrenic group. In addition, schizophrenics performed particularly poorly on targets located in the left half or lower half of the display. These results suggest that response to the masking of distractors may be a new index of attentional shortcoming in schizophrenia. Various theoretical explanations for the target location findings are also discussed.  相似文献

The 1960 Picture Identification Test (PIT) provides association scores for 210 need dyads derived from 21 Murray needs. Association scores for 16 clinical-control group pairs were analyzed for differences by t test. The clinical groups represented schizophrenic, neurotic, sex disturbance, and behavior disorder categories. Assertive needs produced the largest number od dyads which discriminated (p less than .05) clinical and control groups. Schizophrenic groups had the largest number of differences from normal controls. Schizophrenics tended to under-associate pairs of Assertive needs, as compared to normals, whereas other groups tended to over-associate these needs. Clinical groups in general over-associated 379 need dyads and under-associated 99 dyads (p less than .05). These results suggest that the frustations of maladjusted people, with regard to need association, are most generally related to insuficient conceptual differentiation of needs.  相似文献

The effects of decision criterion on response latencies of binary decisions were examined. The stimuli comprised two, partly overlapping, “normal” distributions of either two-digit numbers or tonal frequencies. Individual stimuli were randomly sampled from the distributions, and subjects had to decide from which distribution the stimulus was sampled. The decision goal was to maximize the expected gain using three different payoff matrices. Decision latencies with and without prior knowledge of optimal decision criteria were measured. In a control task, subjects were asked only to label stimuli as being either above or below the optimal criteria (without regard for a posteriori probabilities or expected gain). The relation between criterion and latency was examined by means of a trial-by-trial analysis of the stimuli and the responses. Response latency was inversely related both to the distance between the stimulus and the decision criterion and to the probability of the response elicited by the stimulus. Response latencies showed a maximum at the criterion in all conditions. These results were obtained with different stimulus modalities (tones or numbers), different discriminability levels within the auditory modality, and ifferent decision tasks. It is proposed that the decision criterion is the primary determinant of response latencies of binary decisions.  相似文献
