ISSUES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY IN THE U.S.A.

All States in the U.S.A. license or certify psychologists. The basic degree for licensure/certification is a doctoral degree. Licensure/certification is usually generic but various other forms of specific credentialling in Clinical Psychology are possible. Most health insurance schemes provide payment for psychological services, though not invariably on a fully independent basis. The major instrument in achieving this recognition has been ‘freedom of choice’ legislation. It is maintained that the three issues of credentialling, licensure/certification, and receipt of third-party/insurance payments are highly interdependent.

一 西方的工业心理学从本世纪初开始被介绍到中国来,在30年代中期,有关这类文章的介绍为数渐多,同时也有些心理学家从事过为数不多的研究。但由于当时西方的工业心理学既不为厂主所重视,更不受工人群众的欢迎,所以长期以来,工业心理学没有在中国的土壤里生根发芽。     

SOME THOUGHTS ON THE RELEVANCE OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY IN AFRICA

The article focuses on the need to make applied psychology more relevant to the realities of Africa. The writer argues that because applied psychology tends to be centro-cultural it has not made much impact in Africa. The writer observes, however, that the crucial factor is the tendency of many African psychologists to apply psychology in disregard of such mediating factors as values. The moderating influence of values on behaviour in applied settings is explored by citing some recent cases. The writer also identifies some underlying factors accounting for why theories and models relevant to African realities have not been developed by African psychologists. Four underlying issues crucial to the development of concepts and models relevant to Africa are outlined. Particular mention is also made of the need to properly market psychology in Africa.

The current status of French industrial psychology is evaluated. Within the social and economic context of contemporary France, varying ideologies and scarce resources have created a gap between applied and academic industrial psychology. Personnel practices and systems and organizational research are noted.
