Abstract

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center (AECOM/MMC) Department of Psychiatry and the Gralnick Foundation/ High Point Hospital jointly sponsored the Second Annual Einstein Symposium on November 7, 1985 commemorating the centennial year of Yeshiva University. The symposium, focusing on Behavioral Family Therapy, opened with the presentation of the Einstein Award for Research in Psychiatry to B. F. Skinner by Herman van Praag, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry. After Skinner's discussion of the role of emotions in behavior analysis, several nationally renowned clinical researchers in the field of behavioral family therapy presented findings of their recent work.  相似文献

Treatment of sexual offenders is still a controversial issue for both forensic clinical practice and research. The methods to evaluate efficacy and effectiveness in the field of forensic psychiatry and psychotherapy show many distinctive characteristics. Especially outpatient treatment of sexual offenders takes place in a conflict of interest. This article aims to illustrate several potentials and difficulties in the field of sexual offender treatment using the example of the Hamburg Institute for Sex Research and Forensic Psychiatry at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE).  相似文献

The social network paradigm is a construct for analysis of social relationships developed in social anthropology. As a concept, however, the social network paradigm has undergone parallel development in several academic and clinical streams of research and practice. Basic research and clinical questions are presented for further exploration in the development of the paradigm. This work was supported in in part by grant #AA03506-01AL from the national Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, awarded to the University of California, Irvine, Department of Psychiatry.  相似文献

This paper will define the conceptual models of an internalized family image and an external psychological family as derived from psychoanalytic and family therapy studies, and relate these models to several issues impinging on custody, adoption, and foster care. Several suggestions based on these models and illustrated by clinical material will be presented which, if applied by families, and mental health, social, and legal authorities, can facilitate the creation of a psychological family, or at least an ambiance imbued with the concepts of a psychological family, for use in the construction of a family image by unrooted children.Dr. Sonne is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Jefferson Medical College; Visiting Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Hahnemann Medical College; Emeritus Director Clinical School, Family Institute of Philadelphia; Senior Attending, Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital.  相似文献

In 1972, the reversion to Japanese rule brought with it many changes for Okinawans, among them the widespread introduction of psychiatry. Psychiatry was not well received at first due to the extensive presence of shamans, who had traditionally dealt with Okinawans’ spiritual and psychological afflictions. Both psychiatrists and shamans claimed to be able to heal those who were labelled ‘mentally ill’ or ‘mentally disordered’ by psychiatrists. This conflict between systems over the body of the patient/client is relevant to debates today about both the perceived value of generic mental health diagnosis and treatment regimes compared with indigenous healing,1 See Kleinman (, ); WHO (2001).  [Google Scholar] and the question of isolating how markers or symbols of identity are employed in patients’ help-seeking choices. We examine three cases from the 1970s of patients who were diagnosed as suffering from both schizophrenia and an indigenous condition known as kami daarii.  相似文献

This paper describes the application of family psychology to the primary care setting—in service, education and training, and scholarship. Primary care family psychology integrates family systems with biopsychosocial theory, yielding an approach that is uniquely suited to the generalist demands of primary care. This approach attends especially to the effects of relationships on health and healthcare, using the family as a potential resource to the patient just as the healthcare team is a resource to the clinician. Training opportunities in primary care family psychology are growing. The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry fellowship is described as an example, with core primary care family psychology training in four different clinical sites: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics/Gynecology. In this article the determinants of psychotic disorder and correlated free will is examined. Althought there is empirical evidence for significant cognitive, emotional and neurobiological correlates of psychosis the precise impact of these abnornalities on free will is largely unclear. More research is needed into a) the role of free will into psychotic etiology and maintenance and b) the impact of different categories of psychotic disorder on free will of the patient. Sixty-nine Cambodian adolescents and young adults were interviewed to determine their experience as children surviving the Pol Pot regime (1975–1979);their first-year experience of resettlement in this country; and their experience of stressful events during the past year. Current DSM-III-R diagnostic status was also determined. A strong relationship between earlier war trauma, resettlement strain, and symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was found. In contrast, the strongest relationship with depressive symptoms was found for recent stressful events. These results are discussed in light of current findings from stress and PTSD research.Dr. Clarke is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Division of Child Psychiatry, Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Oregon. This paper discusses the value of the concepts of entropy and negentropy in assisting our understanding of destructive and constructive energy shifts in communication, with particular emphasis on examining entropic-negentropic processes in disordered family communication during adolescence. The concepts are defined, their operation in life in general is discussed, and three clinical case examples are presented.1979, FallPaper presented at the 3rd Reunion: Panamerican Forum for the Study of Adolescence, Mexico D.F., Mexico, Feb. 4, 1975.Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, Jefferson Medical College; Visiting Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Hahnemann Medical College; Emeritus Director Clinical School, Family Institute of Philadelphia; Senior Attending, Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital.  相似文献

This paper describes an interdenominational continuing education program for parish clergy in the mental health dimension of pastoral work. The program is in its eleventh year and has reached a significant proportion of the clergy, representing a wide range of religious, ethnic, and socio-economic groups, within a large urban community. The format utilizes case-oriented, small group discussion focused on the clergy's own pastoral work. It emphasizes preventive educational activities along with the development of basic counseling and mental health skills. Ongoing evaluation indicates that the program constitutes an effective, economical, and flexible tool for continuing education with clergy.Dr. Wasman is Assistant Professor of Psychology, Dr. Corradi is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, and Dr. Clemens is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, 44106. This article details the development of the Infant Mental Health Clinical and Training Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine from 1976 to the present. The article discusses the clinical sites where the program takes place, which include the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, outpatient child psychiatry clinic, and day treatment programs. Trainees from several mental health disciplines participate in the program, including predoctoral psychology externs, interns from the Clinical Psychology Internship, residents from the Child Psychiatry Training Program, and postdoctoral research fellows in developmental psychopathology. Recently, the Infant Mental Health Program has also been able to offer its own training positions. The philosophical models of clinical service and training are outlined. The article concludes by looking at future directions and challenges for the Infant Mental Health Program. © 1997 Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health  相似文献

In his response to Szasz' Secular Humanism and Scientific Psychiatry, the author considers the use of rhetorical devices in Szasz' work, Szasz' avoidance of acknowledging psychiatry's scientific distinctions, and Szaszian libertarianism versus liberalism.  相似文献
