Three studies examined the predictive utility of heterosexual relationship concerns vis-à-vis support for feminism. Study 1 showed that beauty is perceived to be at odds with feminism, for both genders. The stereotype that feminists are unattractive was robust, but fully accounted for by romance-related attributions. Moreover, more attractive female participants (using self-ratings) showed decreased feminist orientations, compared with less attractive counterparts. Study 2 compared romantic conflict with the lesbian feminist stereotype and found more support for romantic conflict as a negative predictor of support for feminism and women's civil rights. Study 3 showed that beliefs about an incompatibility between feminism and sexual harmony negatively predicted support for feminism and women's civil rights. In concert, the findings indicate that a marriage between research on romantic relationships and the factors underlying sexism is overdue for understanding gender inequities.  相似文献

In the past, reading, writing, and word processing were researched independently. Currently, we see research regarding important connections between reading and writing as well as between writing and word processing. However, critical connections exist between all three areas. In order to have classrooms that promote literacy, we need to use word processing and its accompanying tools as students engage in reading‐writing processes. Abstract— Word recognition plays an essential role in learning to read, skilled reading, and dyslexia. The goal of the research I describe is to develop a theory of word recognition that is realized as a connectionist simulation model. Experience with a first-generation model suggests that the approach can reveal general principles underlying word recognition and its impairments. Although computational modeling introduces new problems of method and interpretation, it contributes in an essential way to understanding reading and other aspects of cognition.  相似文献

Les AA. analysent les données de deux épreuves verbales (liste de mots, créativité) auxquelles ont été soumis des adolescents hindous (N = 144) et américains (N = 96). Ils constatent que : (1) les sujets hindous montrent plus de variabilité dans la tendance à donner des mots identiques (commonality) dans une liste et se caractérisent par un nombre plus élevé de “ groupes ” de mots, liés entre eux dans une même chaîne de pensée; (2) les filies donnent plus de mots identiques que les garçons, mais seulement dans le groupe américain; (3) il existe une relation faible, mais de sens contraire, entre la prédictibilité et le groupement des mots dans les deux groupes linguistiques. La discussion est centrée sur la pertinence des ressemblances plutôt que des différences en matière de comparaisons interculturelles; les similitudes verbales pourraient refléter chez les sujets américains L'orientation vers le groupe des pairs et il est possible de donner d'autres explications à L'absence de Jiaison entre les similitudes verbales, la prédictibilité, I'originalité et la tendance à répondre par groupes de mots.  相似文献

While much has been written on the dialogue between postmodernism and the Christian apophatic tradition, there has been little focus on the role of what lies at the heart of this tradition: the practice of contemplation. By looking at contemplative authors such as Evagrius Ponticus and others, this article shows that contemplative practice, situated in a life of contemplation, relates closely to postmodernism's critique of ontotheology. Contemplative practice deconstructs the epistemologically constituted self that knows itself as knowing and God as known (to paraphrase Mary‐Jane Rubenstein).  相似文献

One hundred thirty-four participants completed a revised Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ), which included criteria for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Two weeks later the participants again completed the revised MDQ after reading either the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV; American Psychiatric Association, 1994) diagnostic criteria for the PMDD or a copy of the same criteria retitled "Episodic Dysphoric Disorder," with all menstrual cycle references removed. Knowledge of the diagnosis did not affect women's perceptions of their own menstrual cycle-related symptoms, but it increased participants' perceptions of premenstrual changes as a problem for women in general. Chi-square analyses revealed that participants were more willing to attach a psychiatric diagnosis to women they know if they believed the diagnosis was related to the menstrual cycle.  相似文献

There is debate in the philosophy of religion about whether the being of God is timelessly eternal or is instead temporal but unbounded. In this paper, I seek to defend the first view by motivating and deriving it from the Christian doctrines of the trinity and salvation. My goal is to present the notion of eternity in a way that makes clear that it belongs to God by nature and to man by grace, with the condition of time being part of the medium of grace. To this end, I also employ the doctrine of theosis, as found in Maximus the Confessor and Dumitru Staniloae, and the Augustinean theory of time.  相似文献

让48例额叶肿瘤患者,26例颞叶肿瘤患者,26例顶枕叶肿瘤患者,5例额颞肿瘤或颞顶肿瘤患者(全部病人分为左脑肿瘤56例,右脑肿瘤49例)说同类词,说非其类词及Stroop测验。结果表明:1.额叶组说同类词总和明显低于颞叶组。2.额叶组读色字及读字色两项任务所用时间明显长于颞叶组及顶枕叶组。3.额叶组读色字及字色出现的错误频率明显高于正常人组及顶枕叶组。4.左脑肿瘤组说同类词及读黑色、色字及颜色命名的成绩明显低于右脑肿瘤组。资料提示:额叶肿瘤比颞叶与顶枕叶肿瘤、左脑肿瘤比右脑肿瘤更容易影响被试的词语记忆能力、选择性注意能力及分类归属能力。  相似文献

Powers, Jordan, and Street recently presented evidence suggesting that assessments of cognitive complexity obtained from a widely used procedure may be significantly influenced by general loquacity and verbal complexity. This report argues that Powers et al.'s results are an artifact of the procedures employed, and presents additional evidence bearing on the relationship between cognitive complexity and general verbal abilities. In one study, conceptually independent assessments of cognitive complexity, loquacity, and writing speed were obtained from a group of college students. Cognitive complexity was found generally unrelated to both writing speed and loquacity. In a second set of studies, independent assessments of interpersonal cognitive complexity and two indices of general verbal abilities were obtained from three diverse populations (college students, mothers of young children, and grade-school children). Only low and generally nonsignificant relationships were found between cognitive complexity scores and the measures of verbal facility. These results are discussed within the framework of a construct! vist theory of cognitive development.  相似文献
