Ninth graders rated their degree of liking for each of 12 striving tasks and, on another occasion, rated their perceptions of the similarity between each pair of tasks. Analyses of variance revealed strong PersonX Task interactions, suggesting the possibility of individual differences in task preference generality. A derived measure of task preference generality-specificity related significantly to an overall measure of perceived task similarity—generalizers saw the tasks as being more similar than did specifiers. Investigation of individual differences in degree of cross-situational generality was suggested as a way to integrate trait and situational theories of behavior.Data collection and initial data analyses for this study were conducted under the auspices of the Institute for Juvenile Research, Chicago, Illinois. Rats responded on a multiple fixed-interval fixed-interval schedule of reinforcement. Each complete cycle of the multiple schedule was separated from the next by a relatively long period of timeout from all schedule contingencies. A response at the end of the second component of each cycle was always reinforced with an invariant reinforcement magnitude, while reinforcement magnitude and reinforcement omission were systematically varied in the first component. Response rate in the first component was a monotonic function of reinforcement magnitude in that component. These changes in response rate in the first component did not affect response rate in the second component. When reinforcement was omitted on 50% of occasions in the first component, following reinforcement there was a reduction in response rate in the second component that was monotonically related to reinforcement magnitude. Following reinforcement omission there was an increase in response rate in the second component that was unrelated to reinforcement magnitude. When reinforcement was omitted on 100% of occasions in the first component, behavioral contrast was observed.  相似文献

This study experimentally investigates several hypotheses about the relationships between performance on a gender-neutral task and gender, self-efficacy, performance attributions, and task interest. Ninety-two subjects were randomly assigned to a success or failure condition and attempted to solve a series of easy or difficult anagrams. Results indicated that changes in self-efficacy expectations as a result of task success or failure were in accordance with predictions from self-efficacy theory; 2 × 2 × 4 ANCOVAs, with the pretest as the covariate, were conducted on self-efficacy strength, level, and task interest. Subjects decreased their ratings of self-efficacy and task interest as a result of the failure experience, and the same ratings increased as a result of the success experience. Few gender differences were found, supporting the hypothesis that the sex linkage of the task significantly influences gender differences in self-efficacy. Analyses of global verbal and mathematical ability ratings resulted in the same trends. Finally, women in the success condition were significantly more likely than men in that condition to attribute their performance to luck; women in the failure condition were significantly more likely than men or women in any other group to attribute their failure to their lack of ability. Implications of these results for future research on career self-efficacy were discussed.  相似文献

Drinking was recorded in rats while lever pressing was maintained on a series of percentage reinforcement schedules in which the per cent of 1-min fixed intervals terminating with food was 100, 90, 30, 70, 10, 50, and 100%. Intervals in which a pellet was omitted were terminated by brief light flash and click stimuli that were also correlated with food presentations. Drinking failed to develop in five of six subjects following intervals in which the brief stimuli were presented regardless of percentage reinforcement. Postpellet drinking, which followed intervals terminated with pellet delivery, however, increased in both duration and amount ingested per interval as percentage reinforcement was systematically decreased. The increase in postpellet drinking above that produced by 100% reinforcement was interpreted as an analogue of the positive-contrast effect observed with food-reinforced operants.  相似文献
