Two experiments were conducted to assess the effects of training procedures on fixed-interval (FI) performance of rats with septal lesions. In Experiment 1, rats with septal lesions that had extensive preoperative FI experience responded at higher rates than did control rats in early periods of the FI and at lower rates during the later period of the FI for the first 10 sessions after surgery. Their subsequent FI behavior became equivalent to that of control rats. In Experiment 2, septal rats that were trained on an FI schedule of reinforcement entirely after surgery by gradually increasing the FI requirements had FI performance equivalent to that of rats with control operations. The results suggest that septal lesions result in a transient disruption in the FI performance of rats with previous FI experience without affecting the acquisition of appropriate FI behavior.  相似文献

Rats that had received septal lesions either prior to acquisition of a position habit (Group SAR) or immediately after position habit acquisition (Group SR) were tested on two reversals of the task. Compared with control-operated rats, both groups of rats with septal lesions exhibited position-habit reversal deficits. The two groups with septal lesions could not be distinguished in terms of the total number of errors made during reversal learning, but could be distinguished on the basis of the type of error committed. Compared with Group SR, Group SAR made significantly more perservative errors on the first reversal and significantly fewer perserverative errors on the second reversal. Group SR made significantly more nonperservative errors than Group SAR on both reversals.  相似文献

Three experiments examined the hypothesis that the effects of septal lesions and systemic injections of scopolamine on avoidance acquisition could be attributed to the effects of either of these treatments on adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion. Septal lesions and scopolamine facilitated 2-way conditioned avoidance response acquisition, and the lesions retarded passive avoidance acquisition. However, neither the injections of dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid which inhibited ACTH secretion as did septal lesions, nor injections of ACTH which mimicked the facilitatory effects of scopolamine on basal ACTH secretion, affected avoidance in these paradigms. Thus, the main hypothesis was not supported. The finding that scopolamine did not affect passive avoidance indicates that a cholinergic system may not be involved in mediating the suppressive effects of punishment.  相似文献

Five rats were submitted to a signaled free-operant avoidance contingency. Throughout the experiment, shock intensity was varied from 0.1 to 8.0 mA, with shock duration constant at 200 milleseconds. Results indicate: (a) an all-or-none effect of shock intensity on response and shock rates, on percentage of shocks avoided, and on frequency of occurrence of responding during the preshock stimulus; and (b) no systematic effect of shock intensity on stimulus control, measured either by the percentage of stimulus presentations accompanied by a response or by the percentage of responses that occurred during those preshock stimuli. Such results indicate that for each subject there is a minimum shock intensity necessary to establish and maintain avoidance responding; intensities higher than this minimum value have little or no effect on responding (with an upper limit for those strong intensities with a general disruptive effect on behavior).  相似文献

Effect of septal lesions on suppression of an intermittently food-reinforced lever press by contingent and noncontingent footshock was measured. Rats with septal damage maintained higher response rates than did intact animals under both contingent and noncontingent shock. Furthermore, the difference in suppression produced by the contingent and noncontingent conditions was approximately the same for the experimental and control groups. In a second experiment, performance was measured during counter-conditioning in which the correlation between contingent shock and positive reinforcement was varied. Rats with septal lesions responded at higher rates than did controls. When only reinforced responses were punished, this lesion-induced elevation represented an increase above baseline performance without punishment. This finding suggests that the effect of septal damage on appetitive instrumental performance cannot be due solely to a deficit in response inhibition.  相似文献

Two hooded rats were trained to bar-press to avoid electric shock on a continuous avoidance schedule with response-shock and shock-shock intervals equal. The rate of delivery of response-independent shocks superimposed on this schedule was varied. The response-independent shocks led to generally higher response rates but, with responses during shock omitted, the rates decreased as the response-independent shock rate was increased. The actual shock rate received by the subjects was linearly related to the maximum potential shock rate. There was an increasing, negatively accelerated function between percentage avoidance and response rate, but there was no consistent relation between the number of shocks avoided and response rate. Response rate decreased as the potential shock rate increased, but responding was maintained even when as few as 15% of the shocks could be avoided.  相似文献
