STABELL, U. & STABELL, B. Duration of scotopic contrast hues. Scand. J. Psychol. , 1971, 12, 106–112.–It is generally accepted that following intense and prolonged bleaching, regeneration of cone pigments in man takes a few minutes to reach completion. The results show that the scotopic hue may remain visible for more than one hour. Hence, it is suggested that light signals and not bleaching signals produce the scotopic contrast hues.  相似文献

Psychol. , 1971, 12, 175–178.–The ability to distinguish one type of radiation from another by its hue disappears in scotopic vision. Accordingly, scotopic hues are found to be invariant of variation of wavelength. It is concluded, on the basis of the Principle of Univariance, that hues may be triggered by light signals initiated in one type of receptor.  相似文献

The ordinary long-term rod and cone dark-adaptation curves have generally been assumed to follow a single exponential rate of recovery. However, in two previous papers on rod dark-adaptation (Stabell et al., 1986a, b), the recovery curve was found to consist of three different sections. The results of the present paper show the same type of recovery function with three different sections for the long-term dark-adaptation curve of the long-wave cone system. During the major, middle section log cone threshold, like log rod threshold, is linearly related to the logarithm of the concentration of bleached photopigment. Presupposing that the bleached cone photopigment acts as a ligand, the change in threshold level obtained during the middle section of the dark-adaptation curve is well described by the change in activity rate of an allosteric, postively cooperative enzyme built as a dimer.  相似文献

Psychol ., 1968, 9, 225–229,— The learning of a conditioned avoidance response caused an increase in the open-field activity of male albino mice. Pseudo-conditioning had an opposite effect. The transfer of brain homogenate from the trained animals did not facilitate the acquisition of the avoidance response by the recipient animals. Differences in the open-field activity were not transmitted with the brain homogenates. However, the constancy of the open-field activity scores was decreased by the homogenate injection, and also by severe electric shocks.  相似文献

J. Psychol ., 1961, 2 , 21–29.—Significant effects of five different levels of reduction in brain ChE activity in the white rat were found during the extinction, but not during the acquisition, of a conditioned avoidance response. The reductions were produced and chronically maintained throughout the experiment by administration of an organo-phosphorous anticholinesterase. (1) Reduced brain ChE activity was associated with differential effects on the behavior, i.e., speed of conditioning was not altered significantly, whereas speed of extinction was so affected. (2) There appears to be a 'critical level' between 60 and 65 per cent reduction of normal ChE activity below which extinction was significantly affected.  相似文献

Psychol., 1973, 14, 1619.-Compared with the curve of additive opponent hue, the curve of scotopic hue of simultaneous contrast was found to be displaced toward blue in the orange and green-yellow regions of inducing field. The results are explained on the assumptions that (a) change of disposition for scotopic hue reflects variation in ratio of primary hue-related processes of inducing field, and (b) the chromatic-related opponent processes, in a dark-adapted and chromatically neutral eye, are of equal magnitude within the photochromatic interval.  相似文献

Comparing a foveal and an extra-foveal field during dark adaptation, transition from chromatic to achromatic vision at intensity levels above the cone plateau started around the break of the dark adaptation curve. Pre-stimulating the two fields in a dark-adapted state with deep red, and test-stimulating when returning sensitivity had reached absolute threshold of the dark-adapted eye, with green filters at intensities above the specific threshold, the fields matched as to hue and saturation. It appears that rod and cone activities are integrated and function as a synchronized unit during the initial recovery phase of dark adaptation.  相似文献

Male rats were treated with barbital in the drinking water for 32–33 weeks (intake 195 mg/kg/day). This treatment ended on day 0. On days 23–29, 1.5 mg/kg/day of atropine was given. The changes induced by the treatments alone or combined were recorded either as a sensitivity to hexobarbital in the brain determined with a threshold method or as water intake calculated on data obtained with weekly intervals. The hexobarbital threshold test indicated that the barbital treatment had induced a tolerance which at the time of the atropine treatment was variable. In the rats also given the atropine treatment this tolerance was after a delay of approx. 2 weeks more marked and less variable. The water intake in only barbital treated rats showed, compared with untreated controls, an increase which had a maximum on days 28–35. During the atropine treatment given on days 23–29 there was in the previously barbital treated rats no certain effect, but immediately after the end of treatment there was an approx. 25 per cent increase in water intake above that found in only barbital treated rats. No return to control levels was seen within a 14 weeks observation period. This increase resembled supersensitivity but did not correspond over time with the changes seen in hexobarbital sensitivity.  相似文献

The perceived loudness of a 1000 c/s tone was measured by a direct scaling method under different conditions of intensity (19–35 db) and duration (50–500 msec) of stimulation. It was found that loudness grows as a logarithmic function of stimulus duration; the relation was verified for ten individual subjects and four levels of intensity. In addition, the relation between temporal threshold and level of intensity was tentatively described.  相似文献

Dark adaptation of the long-wave cones at different eccentricities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Using a Wright colorimeter the ordinary long-term, long-wave cone dark-adaptation curve was measured at 0, 2, 4, 7, 17, 25, 40 and 49 degrees nasally in the visual field. In opposition to previous findings, the results show that the dark-adaptation function of the long-wave cones changes markedly when the test field is moved outward from the rod-free fovea. It is suggested that the kinetics of the long-wave cone photopigment change with eccentricity. Also, at variance with previous findings, the present curves at all eccentricities may reasonably well be interpreted as consisting of three different sections; a first section where the threshold decreases rapidly, followed by a major, approximately linear section and a terminating section that converges asymptotically towards the final level of sensitivity. This finding suggests that the dark-adaptation process of the cone system, under the given experimental conditions, is based on three somewhat different processes.  相似文献

Abstract.— It has previously been suggested that rods act as blue receptors in peripheral color vision. Two experiments examining this issue were conducted. Experiment 1 investigated the perceived hue of a test light presented at a luminance level above chromatic threshold. At 8° in the periphery, the 500 nm test light was perceived as more blue under conditions of dark adaptation than after light adaptation. Similar differences were not found for foveal presentation. The increased blue in the periphery after dark adaptation was attributed to a rod contribution. In Experiment 2 an attempt was made to mix a rod contribution obtained with a 470 nm light below chromatic threshold, with a cone color obtained from a 670 nm light presented above chromatic threshold. No evidence was obtained to support the idea that a blue produced by rods stimulated below chromatic threshold could mix with a red produced by cones stimulated above chromatic threshold. The results are discussed in terms of a rod contribution to hue which is dependent on the luminance level of short wavelength stimulation.  相似文献
