New Journals of Psychology

Creativity, personality assessment and social attitudes are the three primary interests listed by Ronald Taft in the International Directory of Psychologists. He took his Ph.D. at the University of Berkeley, California, USA and is now at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is also Consulting Editor of Australian Journal of Psychology. The International Platform asked him to review the new journal of psychology, Psychology Today which has become quite a sales success.

心理学研究数据类型与统计方法——谈函数型数据分析的引入

心理学研究数据大致分为截面数据、时间序列数据和面板数据, 三种数据类型的分析方法及使用前提因数据属性不同而有所不同。心理学截面数据的统计方法过于依赖模型的线性结构和假设条件等, 在处理心理学面板数据中难以充分发挥统计方法的功用。函数型数据分析方法主要适用于面板数据处理, 特别适宜ERP、fMRI、发展心理等心理实验中存在时间序列的面板数据的统计分析, 为心理学研究提供了有力的新工具。     

Citation Analysis Mapping of Journals in Applied and Clinical Psychology

This paper uses a method of citation analysis to establish the importance ranking and relative location of 23 major journals in the field of applied and clinical psychology and related disciplines. The asymmetric citations are modelled as being the product of the cited journals "importance," the citing journal's "receptivity,"and the "similarity" between the two journals. A maximum likelihood loglinear fit to this model is obtained. Multidimensional scaling of the derived similarities matrix provides an interpretable map of the journals' relative configuration. The changes in relative importance of the journals are reported for the years 1981 to 1988, together with maps of the journals for the periods 1981 to 1984 and 1985 to 1988. The results show a central core of general psychology journals, surrounded by three major groupings of applied psychology journals.     

The birth of the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology

This paper describes the inception of a scientific movement (the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology); the individuals who begot it; the two journals and numerous scientific articles which resulted; its effects in stimulating new areas of teaching and of theoretical development; and its international reception as well as its successes and failures in stimulating the creation of satellite societies on the same pattern.

采用文献计量学方法,以2010－2014年《心理学报》、《心理科学》、《心理科学进展》、《中国临床心理学杂志》、《心理与行为研究》、《心理发展与教育》、《心理学探新》刊载的5878篇文献为研究对象,对作者人数、研究机构、合作情况、研究内容、研究领域,研究对象、研究方法进行了分析,旨在对过去国内心理学的研究发展状况进行系统回顾与总结,并对将来研究提供参考。     

Statistical Judgment Formation in Personnel Selection: A Study in Military Aviation Psychology

This study addresses the issue of data combination in personnel selection. In a pilot study for the selection of trainee pilots for the German Luftwaffe, 99 applicants were assessed using a comprehensive battery of tests that measured inductive thinking, spatial thinking, attentiveness, visual and verbal short-term memory, sensorimotor coordination, and reactive stress tolerance. The global evaluation of the applicants' performance in a flight simulator served as an external criterion. The predictive validity of this test battery was checked by carrying out a discriminant analysis as well as by calculating a neural network. The 2 methods were compared with regard to their classification rate, stability, and separation of correct and incorrect classifications. The results show that artificial neural networks are useful tools for improving the quality of selection procedures for trainee pilots.     

Forum and focus: A personal view of European Social Psychology

The article presents a personal history of European social psychology as advanced by the European Association of Experimental Social Psychology during the last twenty years. It is argued that this association did indeed create a new forum for European social psychologists through organizing summerschools, general meetings, workshops, east—west conferences and through the foundation of a scientific journal and a series of monographs. The Association may also have promoted a different perspective in social psychological research by emphasizing more the collective nature of social behaviour rather than interpersonal processes and by favouring substance over method.     

SCI/SSCI心理学源期刊的计量分析

采用文献计量学方法,利用JCR对2004年SCI、SSCI收录的455种心理学期刊进行了统计分析与对比研究,以揭示其基本特点与存在的问题,并引发了关于心理学学科分类的思考。推荐了2004年国际影响力最大的28种心理学期刊,供我国同类期刊工作者及心理学者借鉴。最后讨论了如何使我国同类期刊进入SCI/SSCI,及如何在投稿中进行更好的理性思维。     

Institutional and Individual Research Productivity in Five Nominated Multicultural Psychology Journals

Research productivity was examined across 5 highly nominated multicultural psychology journals. This yielded a ranking of 40 highly productive institutions and individuals between 1994 and 2007. The results are potentially useful in beginning to track trends in the publication of multicultural psychology studies in research journals. Methodological and interpretational limitations are discussed. Se examinó la productividad de las investigaciones publicadas en 5 renombradas revistas de psicología multicultural. Esto dio como resultado un ranking de 40 instituciones e individuos altamente productivos entre 1994 y 2007. Los resultados son potencialmente útiles para empezar a rastrear tendencias en la publicación de estudios de psicología multicultural en revistas de investigación. También se discuten las limitaciones metodológicas y de interpretación.     

Inference Patterns in Theoretical Social Psychology: Looking Back as We Move Forward

An important hallmark of modern social psychology is the central importance of theory and hypothesis testing. The inference structure, however, underlying such tests are rarely acknowledged and may have important implications for the field. In this study, we examine the inference patterns utilized over 20 years of published work in a leading journal of social psychology. We found that verification, in contrast to falsification and crucial tests of alternative hypotheses, was the dominant inference structure utilized. Crucial tests were conducted least of all. These trends were discussed in light of larger issues from the philosophy of science, as well as its potential implications for the field.     

Levels of explanation in the European Journal of Social Psychology

The nature of explanation in experimental social psychology is the subject of much controversy. To advance the debate, the present article provides a grid of analysis allowing a more [thorough study of experimental social psychologists] work. Four levels of explanation are distinguished as works can be seen as studying intra-individual processes (level 1), interindividual but intra-situational dynamics (level 2), effects of social position in a situational interaction (level 3) and intervention of general beliefs (level 4). An important characteristic of experimental work is the possibility of combining different levels of analysis in the same study, and of surpassing, in this way, the old dichotomy between [psychologizing] and [sociologizing] explanations. Experiments published in the first seven volumes of the European Journal of Social Psychology were explored within this framework.
