Recent attention has focused on the role of interpersonal emotion regulation (IER) in the development and maintenance of a range of forms of psychopathology, including anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder (BPD). Despite the relevance of IER in psychopathology, few measures exist to characterize patterns of maladaptive IER. Our aim was to (1) develop a measure of maladaptive IER, (2) begin to explore the factor structure of this new measure, the difficulties in interpersonal regulation of emotions (DIRE), and (3) examine its association with symptoms of psychopathology. In Study 1, 853 Mechanical Turk workers completed the DIRE and measures of psychopathology symptoms. We identified two factors each in the IER and intrapersonal emotion regulation scales. In Study 2, 142 undergraduate students completed the DIRE and daily measures of emotion regulation and coping for 14 days. Preliminary findings suggest that the DIRE has adequate internal consistency and construct and predictive validity. This measure has the potential to supplement future efforts in assessing IER in psychopathology. 相似文献

Emerging evidence indicates that agitation is an ominous precursor to imminent death by suicide, yet measures of it are few, and to our knowledge, no self-report measure of agitation exists. To fill this gap, we have developed the Brief Agitation Measure (BAM), which is designed as a brief measure to assess agitation. In this article, we provide preliminary evidence from 2 studies examining the reliability and validity of the BAM in an undergraduate sample as well as a clinical sample. Research on psychopathy has been hindered by persisting difficulties and controversies regarding its assessment. The primary goals of this set of studies were to (a) develop, and initiate the construct validation of, a self-report measure that assesses the major personality traits of psychopathy in noncriminal populations and (b) clarify the nature of these traits via an exploratory approach to test construction. This measure, the Psychopathic Personality inventory (PPI), was developed by writing items to assess a large number of personality domains relevant to psychopathy and performing successive item-level factor analyses and revisions on three undergraduate samples. The PPI total score and its eight subscales were found to possess satisfactory internal consistency and test-retest reliability. In four studies with undergraduates, the PPI and its subscales exhibited a promising pattern of convergent and discriminant validity with self-report, psychiatric interview, observer rating, and family history data. In addition, the PPI total score demonstrated incremental validity relative to several commonly used self-report psychopathy-related measures. Future construct validational studies, unresolved conceptual issues regarding the assessment of psychopathy, and potential research uses of the PPI are outlined. 相似文献

The self-efficacy belief (SEB) concept is discussed in the context of parenting. A questionnaire, the Echelle Globale du Sentiment de Compétence Parentale (EGSCP), assessing several domain-specific SEBs and three related cognitive constructs, was developed with 705 French-speaking
parents of 3- to 7-year-old children. The EGSCP displayed good psychometric properties. Age-related differences and differences
between mothers and fathers illustrated the questionnaire’s discriminative properties. Relations were also found between EGSCP
and several criterion variables: support, satisfaction, self-esteem and stress, childrearing behavior, and children’s social
competence and behavior. The refinement of the SEB concept in the parenting context provides a more comprehensive view of
both mothers’ and fathers’ cognition. The empirical and clinical implications of this are discussed. 相似文献

The measurement of parenting behaviors is important to the field of psychology and the goal of remediating problematic parenting
as a means of reducing child problem behaviors. The Parenting Young Children (PARYC) is a self-report measure designed to
address parenting behaviors relevant for the caregivers of young children, and was assessed in sample of 579 high risk families.
The measure assesses the frequency of several parenting behaviors, the perception of the parenting behaviors as problematic,
and the degree to which the caregiver would like to make changes in specific parenting skills. An examination of the validity
of the parenting behavior items revealed three parenting scales: (1) Supporting Positive Behavior (2) Setting Limits, and
(3) Proactive Parenting. Confirmatory factor analysis results corroborate the findings of the exploratory factor analysis,
supporting the measurement structure of these parenting scales. Tests of convergent validity indicate the PARYC scale is a
suitable measure of parenting behaviors. In addition, the self-perception of parenting behaviors as problematic predicted
concurrent levels of service utilization while controlling for simultaneous child behavior problems. 相似文献

We examined the validity and reliability of a self-report outcome measure for children between the ages of 8 and 11. The Ohio
Scales Problem Severity scale is a brief, practical outcome measure available in three parallel forms: Parent, Youth, and
Agency Worker. The Youth Self-Report form is currently validated for children ages 12 and older. The Ohio Scales Problem Severity
scale was administered to a clinical and comparison sample of children, ages 8–11, then readministered 1 week later to a subsample
of children in order to examine test-retest reliability. The Ohio Scales demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and
reliability. The Ohio Scales was significantly correlated with the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) across both
samples, providing evidence for concurrent validity. Children of the clinical sample reporting higher scores (i.e., more symptomatic)
than the children of the comparison sample on the Ohio Scales, thereby demonstrating construct validity. 相似文献

Using six studies based on 23,823 individuals in diverse settings, we developed and validated a personality measure of Work Drive—a disposition to work long hours and extend oneself for one's job. The factor structure was confirmed in four settings. Work Drive was related to job performance showing incremental validity beyond cognitive aptitude and Big Five personality traits in five validation studies. It predicted academic performance at six different grade levels, even beyond Big Five traits. Construct validity was examined via work values, job involvement, normal personality scales, satisfaction measures, and cognitive ability. Little adverse impact was found. Occupational groups differed on Work Drive. Overall validity and areas of application were discussed. 相似文献

A limited number of measures assess young adults’ perceptions of childhood disorganized and controlling attachment, and although they are empirically strong, the use of these measures can be time consuming and financially straining. The current study aimed to add to the attachment literature by developing a self-report measure, the Childhood Disorganization and Role Reversal Scale (CDRR), to assess for the complexity of those attachment constructs in young adults. This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the CDRR using two separate samples of 750 and 656 undergraduate students (601 females; Mage?=?18.68, 66.4% Caucasian; 531 females; Mage?=?18.68 years, 63.6% Caucasian; respectively), and a community sample of 96 participants (81 females, Mage?=?19.27, 65.6% Caucasian). The results of the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed a four-factor structure for both CDRR parent versions. The CDRR mother version includes the Disorganization/Punitive, Mutual Hostility, Affective Caregiving, and Appropriate Boundaries scales, while the CDRR father version includes the Disorganization, Affective Caregiving, Appropriate Boundaries, and Punitive scales. Overall, support was provided for the psychometric properties of the CDRR. For instance, the CDRR scales demonstrated adequate structural stability (confirmatory factor analyses), internal consistency (Cronbach’s coefficient alphas ranged from .78–.95 for mother scale, and .75–.96 or father scale), temporal reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient ranged from .68–.89 for mother scale, and .69–.87 for father scale), criterion-related validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. The CDRR will assist researchers in broadening the understanding of psychological outcomes of disorganized and controlling attachment representations in young adulthood. 相似文献

A depressogenic attributional style, i.e., internal, stable and global causal interpretations of negative events, is a stable
vulnerability factor for depression. Current measures of pessimistic attributional style can be time-consuming to complete,
and some are designed for specific use with student populations. We developed and validated a new short questionnaire suitable
for the measurement of depressogenic attributions in clinical settings, the Depressive Attributions Questionnaire (DAQ). The
16-item DAQ, and measures of depression and related cognitive concepts were completed by three samples of depressed patients
and matched controls, or depressed and non-depressed participants who had been exposed to a recent uncontrollable stressful
life event (total N = 375). The DAQ had high (i) internal reliability, (ii) test-retest reliability, (iii) convergent, discriminant and construct
validity. It predicted a diagnosis of major depression at 6 months after an uncontrollable stressor, over and above what could
be predicted from initial depression severity. Depressed patients rated the scale as acceptable. The DAQ may be a useful short
measure of depressogenic attributions, which is easy to administer, and predicts concurrent and future depression. It has
possible applications as a screening measure for risk of depression, or as a treatment process measure. 相似文献

Intercultural development in global employees will aid organizations to function successfully in the current global work scene. However, there is a need for a psychometrically valid and reliable measure, which can be used by practitioners and academics to assess the capabilities of individuals. This vignette based intercultural development scale was conceived on the basis of Bennett’s developmental model of intercultural sensitivity. The content was generated using interviews with international employees and subject matter experts. Psychometric properties were established with both qualitative and quantitative analysis. A sample of 461 international employees was used to test the validity of the scale. Confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis and construct validity was established with cosmopolitanism and openness to experience scales. The study confirms the scale’s dimensionality and established convergent, discriminant and nomological validity. The applications of this scale in building capabilities, talent management and strategic decisions in both practical and theoretical assessment are outlined. 相似文献

Field research into the topic of withholding effort and its variants (shirking, loafing, free riding, and job neglect) has been limited due to a lack of measures that are applicable to organizational settings. This study used a multi-phase process to ascertain a measure of withholding effort that can be used in organizational settings. Items were generated through literature review and discussions with practitioners; culled by the authors; and tested in a field study in multiple, diverse organizations. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses found the construct of withholding effort to be multidimensional, but not necessarily as previous theoretical work in the area would suggest. Correlations of the various dimensions of withholding effort scales with existing scales tapping a wide range of employee attitudes were consistent with a priori expectations. Implications for the use of these scales in future workplace research and their practical application in organizations are discussed. 相似文献

In the world of research, compliance with research regulations is not the same as ethics, but it is closely related. One could say that compliance is how most societies with advanced research programs operationalize many ethical obligations. This paper reports on the development of the How I Think about Research (HIT-Res) questionnaire, which is an adaptation of the How I Think (HIT) questionnaire that examines the use of cognitive distortions to justify antisocial behaviors. Such an adaptation was justified based on a review of the literature on mechanisms of moral disengagement and self-serving biases, which are used by individuals with normal personalities in a variety of contexts, including research. The HIT-Res adapts all items to refer to matters of research compliance and integrity rather than antisocial behaviors. The HIT-Res was administered as part of a battery of tests to 300 researchers and trainees funded by the US National Institutes of Health. The HIT-Res demonstrated excellent reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = .92). Construct validity was established by the correlation of the HIT-Res with measures of moral disengagement (r = .75), cynicism (r = .51), and professional decision-making in research (r = ?.36). The HIT-Res will enrich the set of assessment tools available to instructors in the responsible conduct of research and to researchers who seek to understand the factors that influence research integrity. 相似文献

Research on the emotion of shame has increased significantly in recent years. However, there remains a need for more psychometrically
sound measures of shame, including measures of shame in response to specific, idiographic experiences. The Shame Inventory
was developed in order to assess both global feelings of shame as well as shame in response to specific life events or personal
characteristics. Two studies were conducted to determine the preliminary psychometric properties of the Shame Inventory. Across
both studies, results indicate that the inventory has high internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity,
and predictive validity. The Shame Inventory holds promise as a new measure designed to assess both global feelings of shame

Gordon Allport's (1 950) conceptualization of the mature religious sentiment contin- ues to have a tremendous impact on theory and research in the psychology of religion. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a co~nprehensive and valid measure of reli- gious maturity derived explicitly from Allport's theory. To that end, two studies are reported documenting the develop~nent and initial validation of a new scale to mea- sure religious maturity based on Allport's theorking. Content validity is an often ig- nored but crucial step in the construct validation process. With this concern in mind, the content validity of the new scale was established prior to its use in Study 1. Next, Study 1 investigated the empirical validity of the new scale using a known-groups tnethodology, and subsequent analysis resulted in the develop~nent of arevised scale. Study 2 used a different population of participants as well as a different method of scale validation. The revised scale was used in Study 2, and it was found to be related to various indexes of religious maturity, as well as measures of diverse religious and personality constructs embedded within the theoretical framework of religious matu- rity. Whereas some weaknesses emerged, the evidence to date supports continued re- search with this new measure of religious maturity. 相似文献
