Female Ss (N=80) observed either a teacher or a peer model (M) demonstrate a motor task with either high or low performance ability. The effects’ of viewing these live performances on S’s subsequent motor performances were examined. After the observation of M, S’s performance in the presence or absence of the observed M was investigated. A Control Group consisting of 20 Ss, viewing no M, was compared to ail other groups for analysis. Results of the M Type × M’s Ability Level × M Presence design indicated that those in the Control Group had significantly lower performances than all other groups on all blocks of trials. In addition, across all trial blocks, S’s performances were enhanced subsequent to having viewed a skillful teacher M. Upon observing M’s demonstration, Ss exhibited increased matching responses and better performances when performing in the presence of M.  相似文献

Forty participants (age range = 18–35 years) practiced 1 of 2 versions of an aiming task (with or without spring resistance). Knowledge of results (KR) was provided to them either immediately or after a delay of 2 trials. Immediate KR led to significantly more accurate performance during the 80 trials in acquisition but significantly less accurate performance on a 40-trial retention test given 24 hr after practice. In addition, the spring version of the task was performed significantly less accurately than the no-spring version on the 24-hr retention test. Most important, a significant interaction on the 24-hr retention test revealed that performance of the no-spring version of the task, when KR had been given after a 2-trial delay, was significantly more accurate than performance of the other 3 combinations of task version and KR schedule. The results suggest that KR dependency in motor skill learning is related to familiarity with task-intrinsic feedback in addition to the schedule on which KR is presented.  相似文献

On the basis of social learning theory it can be hypothesized that information acquired through model observation can provide as rich a basis for a cognitive representation as that acquired by means of the usual KR procedure. A source of external information similar to that of model observation is videotape feedback (VTFB). Therefore, it was the purpose of this study to test the potency of these two sources of information with KR. The design was a 4 (groups) × 10 (blocks) factorial ANOVA with repeated measures on the last factor. Both immediate transfer and 48-hr retention effects were assessed. The immediate transfer analysis indicated a significant main effect for group. This effect appeared to be due to the poor performance of the VTFB group. The same effect approached significance after the 48-hr retention. Subsequent variance analysis indicated significant differences between transfer and retention within all conditions except modeling.  相似文献

The purpose of the investigation was to determine the effects from three knowledge of results (KR) precision levels (qualitative; 0.10 sec, 0.001 sec) on the performance of a gross motor coincidence-anticipation task where subjects performed with visual and other sense modality input. Other variables included in the analysis were sex, movement distance, and practice over three blocks of trials. Absolute error (AE), constant error (CE), variable error (VE), and E scores (E) of the subjects from two experiments (N = 90; N = 54) were analyzed with 3 x 2 x 2 x 3 ANOVAs with repeated measures on the last two factors (feedback, sex, movement distance, blocks). Consistent finding from both experiments indicated that, for this gross motor coincidence-anticipation task, the subjects performed as accurately and as consistently when they received qualitative KR as when, in addition, they received more precise KR. Subjects performed with less error on the short as opposed to the long term distance pattern. Males performed with less error on the long movement pattern than females in Experiment 1; however, the only sex difference noted in Experiment 2, when the movement distances were shortened, was that males had a more on-time CE mean score.  相似文献

Over KR acquisition trials of projecting an object a criterion distance, the hypotheses were tested that feedback from the flight of a projected object (flight feedback) would facilitate response recognition but not recall. Visual and auditory flight feedback variables each had two levels, flight feedback present or absent, forming a 2 × 2 × 61 trials design with 14 Ss per cell. Results supported the hypotheses, with flight flight feedback not facilitating response recall, though both flight feedback variables were strong determinants of response recognition. This latter finding was qualified by a discussion of the distinction between response recognition and recognition of response outcome.  相似文献

The authors investigated whether the knowledge of results (KR) schedule influences the extent to which intrinsic feedback is noticed and used. Fifty-six participants received KR that was either delayed over 2 trials (Delay-2) or provided directly after each trial (Delay-0) during 160 trials of an unfamiliar aiming task. No-KR retention tests were given after 80 trials and 1 min and 24 hr after the end of acquisition. After retention, all participants were questioned about their use of intrinsic feedback during practice and whether those sources changed as a function of practice. The Delay-2 group performed significantly less accurately on the 1st and last blocks of acquisition trials but showed a significantly smaller performance decline from acquisition to retention. Moreover, the Delay-2 group noticed and used a greater variety of intrinsic feedback sources and its members were more likely to report that their usage changed with practice.  相似文献

In this study, the authors examined how task, informational, and sensorimotor system constraints influence postural control. Postural behavior of subjects with (n = 15) and without (n = 15) a key sensorimotor system constraint, anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) in 1 knee, was examined during 1 - and 2-legged stance with and without vision. Postural control was assessed on a commonly used postural sway meter and on a dynamic stabilometer. Data on postural sway characteristics were obtained for 30 s under 6 different conditions: standing, with eyes open and closed, on both legs, on the injured leg, and on the noninjured leg. The interaction of task, informational, and sensorimotor constraints was observed only on the dynamic stabilometer and not the postural sway meter. Vision was the most important informational constraint on postural control for subjects on the dynamic stabilometer, particularly for the ACL-deficient group standing on the injured leg. Under more static task constraints, ACL deficiency did not prove a significant disadvantage, because vision was confirmed as a significant source of exproprioceptive information. The results support the functionality of using dynamic tasks such as a stabilometer in assessing postural behavior of subjects with sensorimotor system constraints.  相似文献

Even though it can be shown that verbal knowledge of results (KR) is redundant with sensory feedback for learning certain motor skills, such findings do not eliminate the possibility that when KR is available it influences underlying learning processes. In order to examine the function of KR more closely, two experiments were designed in which the subjects received conflicting information about their own sensory feedback and the KR presented by the experimenter. In Experiment 1, two erroneous-KR groups, a correct-KR group, and a no-KR group performed 150 practice trials on a simple anticipation timing task and then performed three no-KR retention tests of 30 trials each following intervals of 10 minutes, 1 week, and 1 month. The results supported previous findings that providing correct KR is redundant in anticipation tasks. However, learning was influenced by KR as subjects performed according to the erroneous KR information, thereby ignoring their sensory feedback even after a 1-month interval. In Experiment 2, subjects practised a more complex striking response for the anticipation task for 75 trials and then performed no-KR retention trials either immediately, or 1 day or 1 week later. One of the groups received erroneous KR after 50 practice trials with correct KR. The results confirmed and extended those from Experiment 1, as erroneous KR, even after initial practice with correct KR, influenced retention performance. These results indicate that although KR provides information that is not needed to learn anticipation timing skills, this augmented verbal information is a dominant source of information that influences underlying cognitive processes involved in learning motor skills.  相似文献

The role of verbal estimates of movement error in a ballistic movement task was investigated. Two groups performed a rapid linear movement timing task for 50 trials with KR followed by 50 trials without KR. Group I was required to give a verbal estimate of movement time immediately after the task, while Group II was not. Verbal labeling of movement error did not augment performance when KR was present. When KR was withdrawn, however, Group I maintained performance, but Group II's response accuracy declined. Implications for current motor learning theories are discussed.  相似文献

Optimizing Performance Through Intrinsic Motivation and Attention for Learning (OPTIMAL) Theory proposes that choices of any kind support an individual's need for autonomy, motivating them to learn and perform motor skills more effectively. Notably, the authors suggest asking learners to choose when to receive feedback in order to increase autonomy. Conversely, the guidance hypothesis predicts an impact of feedback schedule independent of motivational influences. The purpose of this experiment was to compare the relative and combined effects of autonomy and feedback schedule for the acquisition of a golf putting task without vision of results. Autonomy support (autonomy support vs. yoked) and knowledge of results (KR) schedule (100%-KR vs. 50%-faded-KR) were combined in a 2 × 2 factorial design. Participants (N = 56) in the autonomy support groups were asked to choose from three colours of golf balls for each putt during 10 acquisition blocks. Yoked groups were yoked to the golf ball colour choices of their autonomy support group counterparts. Participants in the 100%-feedback schedule groups were provided x- and y-coordinate KR following every putt during acquisition, while participants in the 50%-faded groups received KR after half of their putts, with feedback frequency decreasing over acquisition blocks. All participants completed a 24-h delayed retention and transfer test without KR. The results were somewhat consistent with OPTIMAL Theory yet the effects were not statistically significant and trivially small. The results were inconsistent with the guidance hypothesis.  相似文献

In linear movement tasks of 200 msec (Experiment 1 -ballistic movement) and 500 msec (Experiment 2 - nonballistic movement), motor recall strength was assessed by absolute, constant, and variable error; recognition strength was assessed by Z'-transformed actual-estimate correlations and absolute actual-estimate difference scores. Contrary to predictions, neither increased KR delay (45 vs. 5 sec) nor limited visual-auditory-tactile feedback caused decrements in recognition processes over KR-training or KR-withdrawal trial blocks for the 200-msec task. In the 500-msec task, the independent variables impaired recognition through training and transfer trials but impaired recall only in the training trials. Results generally did not support the hypothesized independence between recall and recognition processes. Several methodological issues related to recall, and recognition research were discussed.  相似文献

The purposes of this study were (a) to investigate the possibility that short-term memory may be a limiting factor in the development of perceptual-motor sequencing ability, (b) to determine whether sex differences exist in sequencing ability, (c) to determine whether organized information facilitates serial recall, and (d) to ascertain whether the recall of serial perceptual-motor responses results in a bow-shaped serial-position curve. A 2 × 2 × 3 factorial design was used to analyze the independent variables of age, sex, and pattern organization. Further, an age × serial position ANOVA was performed to investigate the serial-position curve. Serial recall improved with age; however young children experienced difficulty in recalling a complex task. The poor recall performance of 5-yr.-old children was discussed in terms of the possibility that young children fail to use labeling strategies to facilitate recall. No sex differences were found. A primacy effect was obtained on the complex task.  相似文献

One of the fundamental predictions of the Adams (1971) closed-loop theory is that S should develop over practice a perceptual trace which forms the basis of an error detection mechanism. If knowledge of results (KR) is withdrawn, S can use the error detection mechanism to guide performance in its place. To test this notion, 10 Ss practiced 170 trials of a discrete ballistic response, attempting to produce a 9.5-in. manual slider movement in exactly 150 msec., with KR present except on Trials 11-20 and 141-170. There was an increasing correspondence between the actual errors and Ss’ estimation of them as practice continued, and ratings of confidence increased, both of which were indicative of a developing error detection mechanism. During KR withdrawal trials, Ss displayed no worsening of performance, and even continued to learn slightly, suggesting that the error detection mechanism acted as a substitute for KR. The results generally supported Adams’ theory.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to investigate the persistence of the effect of "bandwidth knowledge of results (KR)" manipulated during the learning phase of performing a manual force-control task. The experiment consisted of two phases, an acquisition phase with the goal of maintaining 60% maximum force in 30 trials, and a second phase with the objective of maintaining 40% of maximum force in 20 further trials. There were four bandwidths of KR: when performance error exceeded 5, 10, or 15% of the target, and a control group (0% bandwidth). Analysis showed that 5, 10, and 15% bandwidth led to better performance than 0% bandwidth KR at the beginning of the second phase and persisted during the extended trials.  相似文献

Gross and fine motor proficiency were studied in a sample of 52 educable mentally handicapped students (M = 15.8 yr.), half of whom were assigned to 15 30-sec. trials, a relatively massed practice schedule with 5 sec. between trials, and half to a distributed practice schedule with 30-sec. rests. 5 trials were given 24 hr. later. All subjects performed the stabilometer balance task to measure gross motor proficiency and a 45-rpm pursuit rotor task to measure fine motor proficiency. No significant differences with regard to the practice schedule used early in learning were found, however, boys scored significantly higher on the pursuit rotor than girls.  相似文献

In many practical situations, learners are provided with feedback in the form of knowledge of results (KR) by a peer. However, when peers provide KR is currently unknown. When given the opportunity to request KR in a self-controlled manner, some participants have reported a preference for requesting KR after good performances. Alternatively, peers may provide KR in a different fashion. Subsequently, a discrepancy between the learner's desire to receive KR and when a peer provides KR may arise. In our study, peer- and self-controlled KR schedules were compared. Participants were peers who controlled KR (PC; 8), learners with peers (P-L; 8), or learners with self-control (SC; 8). Participants in the two learning groups (P-L and SC groups) completed a serial-timing task with a goal time of 2500 ms. Absolute error data on KR and no-KR trials along with self-reports indicate that participants with self-control preferred KR after good trials and peers preferred to provide KR after both good and bad trials equally. Results from the delayed retention test indicated that peer-controlled learners were more consistent (i.e., in terms of variable error) than the self-control group.  相似文献

Older adults commonly experience declines in episodic memory that affect their daily lives. The aim was to examine whether the acquired metacognitive awareness that comes with task experience, indexed by meta-retrospective memory (meta-RM)/meta-prospective memory (meta-PM), influences how older adults predict performance on later trials. Participants were 178 community-dwelling older adults. RM performance and predictions were measured using a multi-trial word-list learning task. Predictions and performance for PM were measured using a PM paradigm. Change in RM/PM performance and predictions over the trials/blocks were modelled using latent growth curve analyses. For RM, both predictions and performance increased with task experience. However, for PM, neither performance nor predictions changed with task experience. Hierarchical multiple regressions revealed that metacognitive awareness acquired during the RM and PM tasks influenced how older adults’ modified their predictions of subsequent task performance. Findings are consistent with [Toglia and Kirk’s (2000). Understanding awareness deficits following brain injury. NeuroRehabilitation, 15(1), 57–70] hypothesis that individuals compare ongoing performance to expectations based on metacognitive knowledge, such that a discrepancy between actual and expected performance may influence emergent awareness.  相似文献
