Milton H. Erickson provided a wealth of therapeutic interventions that could be invaluable to counselors. The author describes hypnocounseling as an eclectic foundation, whereby Ericksonian hypnotic language patterns can be adapted by most counselors to their primary orientations and techniques.  相似文献

Abstract:   Nineteenth-century Calvinistic theologians in the United States explored both 'federalist' and 'realist' accounts of the transmission of original sin from Adam to his progeny. An examination of the logic of three of these accounts, those of William Shedd, Augustus Strong (who were both realists) and Charles Hodge (who was a federalist), shows that aspects of their views can be defended and yields some helpful pointers towards a realist reconstruction of the doctrine today.  相似文献

There is a lot of badness around. And many have concluded that there is, therefore, no God. Why? Because God is commonly said to be omnipotent (all‐powerful), omniscient (all‐knowing), and good, and because it seems hard to see how such a God could ever permit the existence of the horrors we find in the world. But does evil show that God does not exist? Many people believe that it does. But what might they say to someone who takes the opposite view? Perhaps they might start by arguing as John does with Ron in the following discussion.  相似文献

SUMMARY

This article briefly explores the connections between the thought of these two authors for the purpose of revealing the profound influence these men have on the principles and practice of geriatric pastoral care. This exploration is offered as a professional tribute by a pastor whose ministry with older adults is greatly enriched by their contributions. It is also offered as a personal testimony by a middle-aged individual whose own life journey is most encouraged and challenged by their thought. It is not every philosopher/psychiatrist or theologian/psychologist who can have such significant influence on both levels of the sojourner-in-ministry. Nor is it every author, whose insights are born of specific disciplines, who can offer such stimulating insights to those who are practitioners in another field. Both Viktor Frankl and Charles Gerkin possess these capabilities in abundance. The following “dialogue” simply serves as an invitation to partake of the wealth of their wisdom for both personal and professional enlightenment.  相似文献

In this brief essay, we clarify Cohen’s ‘Facts and Principles’ argument, and then argue that the objections posed by two recent critiques of Cohen—Robert Jubb (Res Publica 15:337–353, 2009) and Edward Hall (Res Publica 19:173–181, 2013)—look especially vulnerable to the charge of being self-defeating. It may still be that Cohen’s view concerning facts and principles is false. Our aim here is merely to show that two recent attempts to demonstrate its falsity are unlikely to succeed.  相似文献

We reply to discussions of Equality: From Theory to Action by Harry Brighouse, Joanne Conaghan, Cillian McBride and Stuart White. We find many of their points helpful and treat them as a useful contribution to a continuing dialogue on egalitarianism.  相似文献

This article argues that Laszlo's concept of the Akashic Field (A-field) does not render the concept of reincarnation either redundant or unnecessary, that reincarnation is a fact of nature, something the universe is doing at this stage of its evolution. Not only is Laszlo's theory compatible with the concept of rebirth, it actually strengthens that theory by clarifying some of the processes involved. This article presents a rationale for the belief that through reincarnation the universe is giving birth to a transpersonal individuality that does endure outside space–time and is not dissolved back into the quantum vacuum.  相似文献
