We report the transformation of Shockley partial dislocations (PDs) into Frank PDs in lattice-matched ZnS 0.04 Se 0.96 /GaAs(001) as investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The ZnS 0.04 Se 0.96 layers, with a nominal thickness of 70 nm, were grown on GaAs(001) by metal-organic chemical vapour deposition at 350°C. We mainly find stacking-fault pairs on the (111) and planes that are bound by Shockley PDs with Burgers vector . Different reactions are observed between PDs taking place in situ in the electron microscope, leading to the transformation of Shockley PDs into Frank PDs with and stacking faults on the or planes.  相似文献

Electron channelling contrast imaging (ECCI) has been used to image misfit dislocations between single epitaxial layers (epilayers) of In0.2Ga0.8As grown on GaAs (001). Bulk specimens of the as-grown material were examined over a range of epilayer thickness from 25 to 3000 nm. Spectral analysis of ECCI intensity traces was used to establish whether strain fields from the individual dislocations overlapped. Significant overlapping of strain fields was first observed at an epilayer thickness of 100 nm which corresponds well to the onset of macroscopic strain relaxation.  相似文献

We present an exploratory study of an everyday navigation planning situation, addressing spatial planning strategies as well as cognitive shifts between the visually available map and the conceptualized real-world environment. Participants were asked to plan a diversified holiday route on an island, with the help of a map representing spatial as well as activity information. Following the task proper, they reported in written form about the problem-solving process. Route trajectories were analyzed with respect to their properties, and reports were analyzed with respect to the represented concepts and linguistic patterns. Results reveal that route trajectories tended to be circular rather than random, with relatively few detours or crossing lines. The underlying spatial planning strategies as represented in the written reports resembled earlier findings on the Traveling Salesperson Problem, providing insights into the extent to which this abstract task transfers to a naturalistic scenario. Most crucially, our linguistic analysis provides new results about the representation of conceptual layers when considering the real-world navigation domain of traveling in relation to the actual table-top map planning domain.  相似文献

We report the generation of fullerenes and nanotubes using an arc discharge on graphite in a high-pressure nozzle. The vapour from the arc is quenched via collisions with helium gas, forming carbon clusters within a localized highpressure region. The carbon molecules are entrained in the gas jet as it expands into the vacuum and deposited onto a silicon substrate in a low-pressure (6 mT) environment. Mass spectroscopy measurements of the plasma reveal the presence of C molecules in the expanding plume. Microstructural examination of films deposited using this method revealed clustered regions of larger fullerenes and nanotubes surrounded by an amorphous matrix. Films containing fullerenes and nanotubes were found to be significantly harder and more elastic than amorphous carbon films deposited under identical parameters but without conditions for fullerene and/or nanotube formation.  相似文献

Stacking blocks provides a way to evaluate cognitive development in humans and other species using the same comparative measures. The present study used regular cubic blocks as well as cubic blocks with bumps on two sides. The bumps changed the physical properties of the blocks and increased the difficulty involved in stacking them. Subjects were required to choose the appropriate orientation for stacking the blocks. Three juvenile chimpanzees and 14 human children (aged 2–3 years) were tested under identical task settings in a face-to-face situation. The goal of a trial was to stack up four blocks (two cubic blocks and two cubic blocks with bumps). The results showed initial difficulty in stacking the blocks with bumps in both chimpanzees and humans. Experienced juvenile chimpanzees and humans older than 3 years became proficient at solving the task. Behavioral strategies adopted to succeed in the task were common to both species. The subjects spontaneously adopted a strategy of stacking as the last block of the tower a block with a bump facing upwards. The subjects also showed active change in the orientation of the blocks when necessary, although correct orientation changes were infrequent especially during the early phases of experiment. The results are discussed in the context of the underlying cognitive development in the domain of physical understanding in both species.  相似文献

The author argues that the psyche crafts an affective metaphor for death out of the separation drama of infancy. Emergence of self from the mother–infant dyad can accomplish cohesion of fragmentary unconscious mentation strong enough, following Winnicott, to make possible a belief in God. Through developmental synergy between female and male elements, a sense of participation in an eternal principle of being can be achieved, sustaining the ego against anxieties over disintegration, and death as its analog. Surgeons who perform sex reassignment surgeries (SRS) define their goals and evaluate their outcomes in terms of two kinds of results: aesthetic and functional. Since the neogenitals fashioned through sex reassignment surgeries do not enable reproductive function, surgeons must determine what the function of the genitals is or ought to be. A review of surgical literature demonstrates that questions of what constitute genital form and function, while putatively answered in the operating room, are not answerable in the discourses of clinical evaluation used to define them. When the genitals—the word itself derived from the Latin genitas meaning to begetare not reproductive, the question of their function shifts away from the biological and into other registers: pleasure, intimacy, sociality. As condensed sites of meaning and meaning-making around which selves, affects, resources, anxieties and futures are organized, the genitals signify in excess of the categories of “aesthetic” and “function” that surgeons use to assess them. Not reducible to either aesthetics or function, but constitutive of them both, this excess appears in surgical texts in the form of imagined futures of social and sexual engagement and demonstrates a powerful means by which properly sexed bodies are created.  相似文献

{111} stacking faults and nanotwins in epitaxial BaTiO3 thin films on MgO substrates have been investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. In many cases, the stacking faults and nanotwins were found to be accompanied by partial dislocations. These partial dislocations can be classified as two different types, analogous to the situation in the fcc structure. One is of the Shockley type with the Burgers vector (a/3)<112>. The other is of the Frank type with the Burgers vector (a/3)<111>. The movements of both types of partial can lead to the {111} stacking faults and the {111} twins observed in these films.  相似文献

In parallel to studies of various cases of synesthesia, many cross-modal correspondences have also been documented in nonsynesthetes. Among these correspondences, implicit associations between taste and pitch have been reported recently (Crisinel & Spence, 2009, 2010). Here, we replicate and extend these findings through explicit matching of sounds of varying pitch to a range of tastes/flavors. In addition, participants in the experiment reported here also chose the type of musical instrument most appropriate for each taste/flavor. The association of sweet and sour tastes to high-pitched notes was confirmed. By contrast, umami and bitter tastes were preferentially matched to low-pitched notes. Flavors did not display such strong pitch associations. The choice of musical instrument seems to have been driven primarily by a matching of the hedonic value and familiarity of the two types of stimuli. Our results raise important questions about our representation of tastes and flavors and could also lead to applications in the marketing of food products.  相似文献

We report on optical writing of typically 300–1000?nm diameter dots within the volume of a bulk As2S3 chalcogenide glass using a focused 1–3?mW beam of a cw He–Ne laser. The Raman spectra taken from the dots in the course of the writing indicate that the photorefractivity is manifested by an increased polarizability of bonds within intrinsic As4S4 (realgar) groups as well as of S–S bonds within the matrix of the As2S3 glass. The photorefractivity is also accompanied by softening of the As–S–As vibrational frequencies, characteristic of AsS3 pyramids, which are the main structural units of the As2S3 glass.  相似文献

To understand the direct correlation between photodarkening (PD) and photoinduced defect creation (PDC) observed in amorphous chalcogenides, in situ simultaneous measurements of PD and photocurrent (PC) have been performed on amorphous As2Se3 films. The time evolution of PD and PDC during light excitations are empirically described by a stretched exponential function; 1 ??exp[?(t/τ) β ], where τ is the effective response time and β the dispersion parameter. The value of τ for the PDC is very much smaller than that for the PD, suggesting that there is no direct correlation between the two.  相似文献

The idea that inferential performance cannot be analyzed within a single model has been suggested within two theoretical contexts. The dual strategy model suggests that people reason using different approaches to processing statistical information. The dual-source model suggests that people reason probabilistically using both statistical information and some intuition about logical form. Each model suggests that people have different approaches to processing information while making inferences. The following studies examined whether these different forms of information processing were equally present during reasoning. Participants were given a series of problems designed to distinguish counterexample from statistical reasoners. They were then given a series of MP or AC inferences for which identical statistical information was provided. Results show that MP inferences were considered to be deductively valid more often than equivalent AC inferences. The effect of logical form was independent of reasoning strategy, and of relatively equivalent size for both counterexample and statistical reasoners. The second study examined explicitly probabilistic inferences, and showed smaller effects of logical form and of reasoning strategy, although with a complex set of interactions. These results show that understanding the way that people use information when making inferences requires a multidimensional approach.  相似文献
