ABSTRACT

One of Heidegger’s enduring concerns was to develop an original meditation on the meaning of (the presence of) the present. Integral to this attempt is his critique of the understanding of the being of beings in terms of the objectivity of the object. In this paper, I trace Heidegger’s analyses of objectivity, through which Heidegger consistently establishes objectivity as non-primordial and derivative. In order to do this, however, Heidegger had to identify a specific, narrow (spatio-temporalized) conception of objectivity (in terms of Gegenstehenlassen and Vorstellen) as the hallmark of modern philosophy. I show that it is unclear whether that conception is a justified result or rather an unjustified presupposition of his approach. I then suggest what meanings of objectivity might be lost after Heidegger, by pointing to several aspects of Hegel’s notion of objectivity that are incompatible with Heidegger’s account, to wit: the lack of ‘subject-object’-terminology in his definitions of objectivity; the special language of ‘forms of’ objectivity; Hegel’s critique of representation; his notion of Gegenstand as a content with a categorical form, and, finally, that Aristotle’s notion of hypokeimenon might provide a clue as to how Hegel’s notion of object can be understood.  相似文献

When patients present in a deadened state, the analyst may feel a sense of futility and shame in his efforts to have impact. This may cause him to withdraw and contribute to an enactment in which both participants purge themselves of wanting anything from the other, sapping the treatment of purpose and aliveness. The author presents a model in which the analyst can reawaken his desire for recognition and connection and utilize it to introduce the patient to his or her own dissociated longings. This involves fortitude on the therapist’s part, since he must withstand the rejection that had caused him to withdraw in the first place, and also be sensitive to the patient’s fear of retraumatization. But if the analyst can do this, he can not only break through the impasse, but enliven the patient and infuse the treatment with a sense of purpose and hope.  相似文献

We describe a psychodynamic treatment modified for patients with severe personality disorders identified as borderline personality disorder in DSM-IV, Axis II, and understood as borderline personality organization from a psychoanalytic perspective. This treatment is labeled transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP) in order to highlight the centrality of working with these patients in the here-and-now treatment interaction. The empirical development of TFP is described, including the generation of a treatment manual, the utility of various methods to teach the treatment, and preliminary data on efficacy. The latest step in the development of this treatment is an ongoing randomized clinical trial comparing the efficacy of TFP to a cognitive-behavioral and a supportive treatment.  相似文献

This paper discusses psychodynamic perspectives to the conceptualization and treatment of suicidal patients. A review of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic conceptualizations is provided, along with representative case examples of these phenomena. Empirical studies are also reviewed, noting how recent research provides some meaningful insight into the object relations of suicidal patients. Finally, treatment issues are discussed, including comments about transference, dreams, and countertransference. It is concluded that a psychodynamic model is of value when treating patients with suicidal ideation and impulses.  相似文献

Altruistic behavior and motivation has traditionally been regarded as a defense mechanism defined by the vicissitudes of instinctual gratification. In this article, we suggest that there exists a substantial body of evidence from the fields of ethology, infant research, and experimental psychology to support the existence of an independently motivated altruism that is nondefensive in nature. We attempt to show how the view of altruism as a universal motivational system stems from the recent developments in evolutionary theory and contributes to our understanding of intrapsychic factors influencing human behavior in general and the process of psychotherapy in particular. It is not our goal to prove the existence of "pure altruism" that can never be derived from selfish motives. Rather, our thesis is that self-oriented and altruistic motivations are equal and essential partners in human evolution and development. It is the optimal balance of these two forces that is necessary for evolutionary advancement and for psychological health.  相似文献

In this paper, I evaluate Sabina Spielrein’s life and ideas from a contemporary understanding. I do this by considering the context and situation in which she lived: a journey from being a hospitalized psychiatric patient to becoming a psychoanalyst herself. From her crucial life experiences she learned that the main psychic conflicts stem from the struggle between life and death, and not from opposing ego drives and sexual desires. Spielrein’s considerable creative potentials were nurtured, as well as blocked by her inner conflicts, but also by the enormous historical conflicts of her time.

Clinicians vary as to their beliefs about the use of self-disclosure in psychotherapy depending on theoretical framework, experience level, and the problem focus. Given the limited number of studies examining therapeutic pairs (client and clinician), this study used qualitative methodology to interview gay male therapists and their gay male clients about how therapist self-disclosures affected their therapy. Results show that clients often felt aware of therapist self-disclosures, whether explicit or implicit, and believed the disclosures assisted them in feeling connected to their therapists and served to normalize the clients’ experiences. In this reply to Johnson, it is suggested that her response to my paper is largely on ideological grounds. Johnson totally ignores the theoretical and empirical basis for the definition of mental illness that is used. She appears not to have read my paper carefully, for all the issues she raises have been dealt with in the paper. She does not seem to comprehend the problematic aspects of both feminist and traditional theory. Johnson does not appear to understand that traditional therapists do not blame the victim and that they also see the therapeutic process as resulting in maturation and growth. Her ideology also apparently makes her unable to see that she and I are in substantial agreement on many issues regarding the role of women.  相似文献

There is some evidence that the efficacy of four types of psychotherapeutic psychotherapy (mentalized-based treatment, transference-focused psychotherapy, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and cognitive-analytic therapy), is superior to treatment-as-usual. More controlled and randomized studies are needed in order a) to confirm the results of the relatively few investigations that were available, b) to examine the therapeutic relevance and usefulness of correlates and predictors of improvement and remission in borderline patients, and c) to examine possible fruitful combinations with other types of treatment.  相似文献

Traditional approaches to formal youth mentoring have focused primarily on improving the lives of “at‐risk” youth through the assignment of individual mentors who are typically disconnected from youth's communities. Similarly, research in the field of formal mentoring has emphasized the dyadic relationship between the mentor and the mentee, with less attention paid to the broader relational contexts in which such relationships unfold. The current paper proposes a new framework that expands the scope of mentoring interventions to include approaches that build on and cultivate informal supports and empower youth to identify and reach out to networks of potential supportive adults, thus increasing the reach of youth mentoring.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Three phases of psychiatric hospital treatment of children, ages 6 to 12 years, admitted to the hospital because of suicidal threats or suicidal attempts are described. Suicidal behavior in young children must always be taken seriously. Although suicidal behavior usually ceases upon hospitalization, suicidal ideas may continue to be expressed in play and fantasy. In addition to individual and milieu therapy, treatment must also include concomitant assistance of the parents. The treatment procedures are illustrated by suicidal case examples of a depressed girl, an acting-out boy, and a psychotic boy.  相似文献
