Groups of rats were administered either DSP4 (50 mg/kg, ip), xylamine (50 mg/kg, ip), or p-chloroamphetamine (2 X 10 mg/kg, ip), either 2 weeks or 1 week before the testing of two-way active avoidance. DSP4 and xylamine, the selective noradrenaline (NA) neurotoxins, caused a two-way avoidance impairment but p-chloroamphetamine, the selective 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) neurotoxin, did not do so. Pretreatment with desipramine (20 mg/kg, ip) blocked the avoidance impairment caused by DSP4 and xylamine treatment. Neither DSP4 nor xylamine caused any alteration of passive avoidance retention. The biochemical analyses indicated severe NA, but not 5-HT, depletions in the DSP4 and xylamine conditions and drastic 5-HT, but not NA, depletions in the p-chloroamphetamine conditions. These results confirm and extend earlier findings concerning the role of NA in avoidance behavior.  相似文献

Experiment 1 examined the performance of 10 pigeons, 5 with bilateral medial archistriatal lesions and 5 sham-operated controls, in the acquisition and maintnenance of a discrete-press avoidance response. The archistriatal subjects had longer response latencies and never attained the level of performance achieved by the controls. In Experiment 2 eight pigeons learned a treadle-press response to avoid or escape shock on a signaled free-operant schedule. After 17 daily sessions four subjects received bilateral lesions in the medial archistriatum, and four received control lesions in the neostriatum. After recovery from surgery, all subjects were returned to the experimental procedure. Avoidance of those subjects with archistriatal lesions was impaired relative to the postoperative level while that of the control group was unchanged. These results are interpreted in the light of earlier experiments showing reduced escape and avoidance behavior both in order avian species and in mammals with lesions in the amygdala, to which the archistriatum is considered homologous.  相似文献

Cathodal electrolytic lesions of the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) at posterior hypothalamic levels in male hooded rats produced a mild, transient hypodipsia and lowered jump thresholds to footshock. The lesions produced marked deficits in passive avoidance performance in a paradigm that paired discrete, linearly incrementing footshock intensities with contact of a water spout following 48 hr of water deprivation. Intraperitoneal injections of DL-5-hydroxytryptophan (75 mg/kg), the immediate metabolic precursor of serotonin, had no effect on the passive avoidance performance of either experimental or operated control subjects. Lesions of the MFB also resulted in deficient acquisition in a one-trial step-through passive avoidance paradigm not using motivation to drink and caused a severe acquisition deficit in a one-way active avoidance task. Lesions of the septal nuclei produced lowered jump thresholds but did not affect acquisition in the first passive avoidance task. The results are interpreted as indicating a lesion-induced deficiency in fear learning, independent of the serotonergic functions of the MFB.  相似文献

Rats were trained in a step-down inhibitory avoidance task using a 25 X 25-cm platform and either a 0.3- or a 0.8-mA training footshock. Immediately after training retrieval was good in all animals; but at 24 h there was a decline in the group trained with 0.3-mA footshock. This decline was not observed in animals submitted to an immediate retrieval test and then tested again at 24 h. Thus, the immediate retrieval test apparently served the purpose of a rehearsal. A considerable degree of activity (rearing, ambulation, sticking the head out of the platform) was observed in test sessions. Activity scores were lower in the animals trained with the 0.8-mA footshock. The amount of activity, however, was unrelated to retrieval performance (i.e., to test session step-down latency).  相似文献

This study tests predictions that adolescent psychopaths are hyperresponsive to rewards (Quay, 1988) and deficient in passive avoidance learning (Newman & Kosson, 1986). Forty male adolescent juvenile offenders were divided into psychopaths and nonpsychopaths using cluster analysis. Subjects were administered a passive avoidance learning task which required learning when to respond to cards associated with either reward or punishment. Results showed a greater responsivity to reward in psychopaths, with no group differences in passive avoidance errors. Results lend support to the view that psychopaths tend to focus on the prospect of reward under conditions of mixed incentives and, when sufficiently motivated, are capable of improved performance. Together with findings of recent psychophysiological studies, these results suggest that adolescent psychopaths may have latent abilities which could have treatment implications.The authors are greatly indebted to the boys and staff of the testing institution for their kind cooperation in this study. Effects of olfactory bulbectomy on social behavior in male guinea pigs were studied. Both brief-exposure pairing techniques and a group-living observation period were employed to test for disruption. During short-term testing sessions bulbectomized animals courted females less than but mounted them as frequently as control subjects. While the groups did not differ in fighting behavior during short-term tests, control subjects scent-marked more frequently. Subsequently, animals were observed as same-treatment pairs living continuously with females, and behavior was sampled over a 3-wk period. Under these conditions bulbectomized males, unlike controls, failed to form dominance orders, exhibited virtually no intermale aggressive activity, had markedly depressed sexual activity, and scent-marked rarely. It is concluded that olfactory bulbectomy profoundly alters the behavior of male domestic guinea pigs and that hose alterations are most evident when experimental subjects are observed in a species-typical group-living environment.  相似文献

The retention performance of independent groups of rats was examined at various intervals following one-trial passive avoidance training. Performance was good in the 30-sec, 15-min, 12-hr, 24-hr, and 36-hr group, while retention was significantly poorer between these peaks. Control experiments appear to rule out strictly performance factors related to footshock. These results suggest that some rhythmic internal (physiological) state of the organism may be a relevant condition for optimal retrieval—a state-dependent hypothesis.  相似文献

It seems intuitively obvious that active exploration of a new environment will lead to better spatial learning than will passive exposure. However, the literature on this issue is decidedly mixed—in part, because the concept itself is not well defined. We identify five potential components of active spatial learning and review the evidence regarding their role in the acquisition of landmark, route, and survey knowledge. We find that (1) idiothetic information in walking contributes to metric survey knowledge, (2) there is little evidence as yet that decision making during exploration contributes to route or survey knowledge, (3) attention to place–action associations and relevant spatial relations contributes to route and survey knowledge, although landmarks and boundaries appear to be learned without effort, (4) route and survey information are differentially encoded in subunits of working memory, and (5) there is preliminary evidence that mental manipulation of such properties facilitates spatial learning. Idiothetic information appears to be necessary to reveal the influence of attention and, possibly, decision making in survey learning, which may explain the mixed results in desktop virtual reality. Thus, there is indeed an active advantage in spatial learning, which manifests itself in the task-dependent acquisition of route and survey knowledge.  相似文献

To evaluate whether there is an early attentional bias towards negative stimuli, we tracked participants' eyes while they passively viewed displays composed of four Ekman faces. In Experiment 1 each display consisted of three neutral faces and one face depicting fear or happiness. In half of the trials, all faces were inverted. Although the passive viewing task should have been very sensitive to attentional biases, we found no evidence that overt attention was biased towards fearful faces. Instead, people tended to actively avoid looking at the fearful face. This avoidance was evident very early in scene viewing, suggesting that the threat associated with the faces was evaluated rapidly. Experiment 2 replicated this effect and extended it to angry faces. In sum, our data suggest that negative facial expressions are rapidly analysed and influence visual scanning, but, rather than attract attention, such faces are actively avoided.  相似文献

It has been concluded by several investigators that active avoidance performance in mice is primarily influenced or even determined by a single gene. The genetically defined strains C57BL/6 and BALB/c have provided evidence that an aberrant development of pyramidal cells and mossy fiber configuration in the hippocampus of BALB/c mice also is determined by a single gene. As a test of the generality of the single gene influence on avoidance learning, and to examine the relationship of the hippocampal defect to avoidance learning, adult male mice of the inbred progenitor strains C57BL/6ByJ and BALB/cByJ and their seven recombinant inbred strains were tested in a variant of the shuttle-box paradigm used in previous studies. BALB/c were found to acquire the avoidance response at a faster rate than C57BL/6, consistent with most earlier reports, but performances of the recombinant inbred strains failed to dichotomize about the progenitor strains. The rank order of performance scores for the recombinant inbred strains was different from that reported in previous studies. Thus the present data failed to support the interpretation of a single major gene influencing active avoidance learning. It is concluded that avoidance learning and performance cannot be considered as unitary variables and that the interaction of genetic with environmental factors, including the conditions of the specific testing situation, are important considerations in any interpretation of genetic effects. No relationship between the hippocampal lamination defect and avoidance performance was demonstrated.  相似文献
