Meanings of Education for University Students: Academic Motivation and Personal Values as Predictors
We conducted two studies to determine the meanings that undergraduate students ascribe to their education and how these meanings
relate to relevant psychological constructs: academic motivation and values. Ten meanings emerged: career preparation, independence,
finding direction for the future, learning, self-development, taking the next step, making social connections, changing the
world, stress, and escape. Support was found for many of the predicted relationships. For example, enjoyment motivation positively
predicted all of the meanings, except taking the next step, stress, and escape. Also as expected, the values of intellectualism
and academic achievement positively predicted learning, self-development, and changing the world. However, contrary to expectations,
valuing physical development also emerged as a significant predictor of several of the meanings of education. 相似文献

The present study examined the effects of a soccer, midfielder-specific psychological skills intervention comprising relaxation, imagery and self-talk on position-specific performance measures. Using a multiple-baseline-across-individuals design, five participants had three per-formance subcomponents assessed across nine competitive matches. The results of the study indicated the position-specific intervention to enable at least small improvements on the three dependent variables for each participant. Social validation data indicated all participants to perceive the intervention as being successful and appropriate to their needs. The findings provide further evidence to suggest the efficacy of sport, and position-specific interventions. Suggestions for future research are provided. 相似文献

采用自然教学实验法,探索提高大学生心理健康水平的有效途径与教学模式。结果表明(1)开设心理健康教育课程并辅以心理咨询是眼下提高大学生心理健康水平的有效措施之一;(2)不同系科心理健康教育的效果不同,心理健康教育课程应根据学生的个别差异有针对性地进行;(3)大学生心理健康教育课程的教学模式为“面上集中释疑,线上互相解疑,点上个别辅导”。 相似文献

The results from previous research suggest that there is a relatively small (albeit statistically significant) relationship
between the externalizing behavior and academic skills of students with emotional disturbance (ED). Researchers have also
found that the majority of these students have language deficits that hinder their academic performance. The purposes of this
study were to investigate the mediating role of academic processing speed (i.e., academic fluency) on the relationship between:
(a) The externalizing behavior and academic skills of K-12 students with ED; and (b) language skills and academic skills of
students with ED. Results indicate that academic processing speed mediated the influence of both language skills and externalizing

Nous avons essayé ici de donner une définition plus précise de cette notion d'un point de vue psychologique et ainsi de fourair une meilleure analyse de la notion d'habileté implicite. Nous avons aussi indiqué comment les concepts d'habileté et de technique sont articulés. Enfin, nous avons traité quelques aspects psychologiques du problème de l'évaluation des habiletés. Life skills training can be considered an essential kind of school health promotion effort. In this article, the theoretical foundations of the Life Skills Training Program are described. Then, the components of the intervention program are presented, including: (1) cognitive component; (2) decision making component; (3) techniques for coping with anxiety; (4) social skills training component; and (5) self-improvement component. Selected evaluation studies of the Life Skills Training Program are summarized to show effects on student health risk factors. Depression, anxiety and stress are among major psychiatric conditions being prevalent in contemporary youth. This study intended to examine the role of three religious orientations (Allport and Ross 1967) in students demonstrating these psychological symptoms. A sample comprising 502 Pakistani girls studying at university level was randomly selected. Age Universal I–E Scale and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale were used to collect data. Findings reveal an inverse relationship between extrinsic personal religious orientation and symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress among the respondents. Results support the integration of religious orientations in mental health care of young adults in Pakistan. 相似文献

Shadow education, more commonly known as private tutoring, has been actively supplementing the formal mainstream education system in both developed and developing countries. Using the Q methodology, a quali-quantilogical approach, the study determined how private tutoring has impacted the academic life of high school students by exploring and analyzing their subjective experiences in relation to being part of shadow education. This was done by asking 30 high school students to perform a Q sort of 48 statements that depicts the impact of shadow education or private tutoring. The findings revealed that exposure to shadow education activities affected the general attitude of the participants towards their studies and learning and their perception about their selves and their ability to perform tasks related to their schooling. Likewise, results also showed that exposure to shadow education activities had an effect on the academic performance of the participants. The effect of exposure to shadow education activities are not limited to those commonly reported in literature. 相似文献
