In Swedish welfare agencies, it was found that the importance of characteristics of social research for utilization was related to three intervening factors: the context of origin of the research, the functions for the user and the utilization context. These factors seem to explain the difference between competing notions on the importance of scientific sophistication for research utilization. Sune Sunesson is professor and head of the Ph.D. program and the research department of the School of Social Work at Lund University. His main research interests are the sociology of human service organizations and the impact of science on these organizations. Kjell Nilsson, Birgitta Ericson, and Britt-Marie Johansson are Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Sociology of the Lund University.  相似文献

Since its introduction in 1987, Benjamin Freedman’s principle of clinical equipoise has enjoyed widespread uptake in bioethics discourse. Recent years, however, have witnessed a growing consensus that the principle is fundamentally flawed. One of the most vocal critics has undoubtedly been Franklin Miller. In a 2008 paper, Steven Joffe and Miller build on this critical work, offering a new conception of clinical research ethics based on science, taking what they call a “scientific orientation” toward the ethics of clinical research. Though there is much to recommend Joffe and Miller’s scientifically oriented conception of clinical research ethics, I believe that both the critical and constructive projects suffer from the same basic mistake: inattention to context. The internal norms of science cannot be fully specified, let alone satisfied, independently of contextual (external) factors that only come into view when we are attentive to the particular context of that form of inquiry.  相似文献

Two similar, but not identical, content analyses of the portrayals of men and women in French and Danish television advertisements are reported. By partially replicating and extending past investigations conducted in America, Australia, Britain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, and New Zealand, it was predicted that there would be more gender stereotyping in French television advertisements and less gender stereotyping in Danish television advertisements. In the first study, 165 French television advertisements were analyzed by following established coding categories (A. Furnham & E. Skae, 1997; L. Z. McArthur & B. G. Resko, 1975). Contrary to prediction, the results showed that traditional gender role portrayal on French television was no different from that found in other countries. Separate statistical analyses were carried out for visually versus aurally classified central figures, yet this yielded relatively few significant differences. In the second study, a sample of 151 Danish advertisements was analyzed; results showed that Danish television was generally less gender stereotypic than French television in its portrayal of women. Exactly half (5) of the coding categories showed significant differences. Finally, an international statistical comparison between these two studies and similar research in Australia, Britain, and Italy was carried out. The methodological implications of these results are discussed as well as the theoretical issues arising from other studies of this sort.  相似文献

As the field of research utilization grows and differentiates itself, the need for more integrative conceptualization increases as well. In this article, empirical findings on the predictors of conceptual effects of research on practitioners are brought to bear on such a “pluralist” reading of the data, with the objective of explaining more fully how strong effects are achieved. Michael Huberman is professor of education at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. His research interests are in adult cognition, knowledge utilization, and qualitative research methodologies. His most recent books areLa Vie des Enseignants (1989) andAssurer la Réussite des Apprentissages Scolaires (1988). He is currently completing a book on research utilizations, also in French, with the provisional title,La Mise en Pratique des Recherches Scientifiques, scheduled for publication in early 1990.  相似文献

Principles of good clinical practice (GCP) in clinical research   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Good Clinical Practice is an international quality standard for conducting trials that involve participation of human subjects. Currently, the most widely accepted international document forming the base for GCP is the ICH Harmonised Tripartite Guideline for GCP, which defines in detail the responsibilities and obligations of parties engaged in clinical research. The purpose of this paper is to analyse how compliance with GCP provides protection of the trial subjects and assures quality and credibility of the data obtained. An earlier version of this paper was presented at a symposium, Scientific Misconduct: An International Perspective, organised by The Medical University of Warsaw, 16 November, 1998.  相似文献

The effectiveness of television distortion as a negative reinforcer was analyzed. Contingency arrangements involving television distortion were found to be capable of (a) accelerating the work rate of a naive, mildly retarded subject on a simulated production-line task involving card-sorting, and (b) reducing gross hyperactivity of a mildly retarded subject. An escape-avoidance contingency was arranged for the production-line behavior of the first subject and a punishment contingency for the hyperactive behavior of the second subject. Television distortion appears to be an effective and practical negative reinforcer for use in behavior modification.  相似文献

Quality in clinical research may be defined as compliance with requirements together with credibility and reliability of the data obtained. Sponsors usually apply Quality Management Systems (QMS) to ensure, control, maintain, and improve quality. These systems encompass several preventive measures, tools, and controls. Standard QMS applied by clinical research sponsors may be based on ISO 9000. An earlier version of the paper was presented at the 6th International Bioethics Conference on the subject of ‘The Responsible Conduct of Basic and Clinical Research’, held in Warsaw, Poland, 3–4 June 2005.  相似文献

This paper comments on Polish legal guarantees for diseased persons with reference to the hazards that accompany experimental treatment. While acknowledging that participation in a clinical research program provides patients with additional opportunities for advanced treatment, the paper also points out that systems for monitoring patients participating in experimental treatment require improvement. This article examines evidence for the influence of program evaluation results on political decisionmaking. Dutch practice at central government level is illustrated by an interesting and well documented case: the Reconsideration (Review) Procedure, an annual evaluation process attuned to the budget cycle. Possible implications for the optimalization of the use of evaluatory research are discussed. Evaluators have emerged from the 20-year embrace (by the real world) more sophisticated about the complexity of their task and more realistic about the political realities that exist in social programs and about how social science information is used in social problem solving. Marie-Louise Bemelmans-Videc was, until recently, associate professor of public administration at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. She is currently engaged in (meta-) evaluatory research and advisory work at the Dutch supreme audit institution: the General Accounting Chamber. This article in no way reflects the views of the GAC. He publishing activities cover books and articles related to the science of public administration, the role of professionals in policy-design, and the comparative study of practice and utilization of policy evaluation with European and American governments.  相似文献

The basic hypothesis tested in the article is that the existence of Freedom of Information legislation in a state enhances utilization of evaluation research. The investigation of this research question leads to a tentative rejection of this hypothesis. Factors such as weak Freedom of Information Acts, unsympathetic implementation, and the lack of useful and timely information in agency-sponsored evaluations may discourage legislatures from actively using Freedom of Information provisions to obtain such studies. Robert Segsworth is coordinator of the diploma program in public administration at Laurentian University. Current research interests include the impact of internal and external audits upon the budgeting process.  相似文献
