Louis Sander and Contemporary Psychoanalysis: Nonlinear Dynamic Systems,Developmental Research,Clinical Process and the Search for Core Principles

ABSTRACT

Louis Sander’s cutting-edge approach drew on infant observation research; nonlinear dynamic systems theories; and current biology, physics, and other hard sciences. From this vantage point, he rethought the psychoanalytic approach to psychic structure, motivation, and therapeutic action. He opened a window for a broad and inclusive relational metapsychology of the highest order, updating Freud’s project of linking psychoanalysis with scientific paradigms. Sander emphasized the dynamic relationships between elements in systems, innovating in both method and content. This article offers an account of Sander’s broad and deep integration of psychoanalysis and developmental research.     

Neuroscience and the Embodiment of Psychoanalysis—With an Appreciation of Damasio’s Contribution

ABSTRACT

This article contends that psychoanalysis benefits from a neurobiological perspective. It is suggested that Antonio Damasio’s view on the neurobiology of mind and self is particularly useful in this regard. The article presents a review and discussion of Damasio’s basic assumptions on body, emotion, feeling, unconscious and conscious mind, and embodied self. It explains how Freud’s hypotheses that ego is first and foremost a bodily ego is underpinned by contemporary neurobiological research and theory. A clinical illustration highlights that changes in sense of self encompasses changes throughout the whole body, as felt from the inside and as observed from the outside.     

城市绿化景观观赏性的心理学研究

抽取上海地区具有代表性的公共绿地绿化景观样本,编制测评量表对其观赏性进行评价.通过探索性因素分析鉴别该量表的测评维度并基于理论推断和经验归纳确定评价指标,包括整体美感、正性情绪、色彩知觉、形态知觉、负性感受.120名大学生和研究生对景观样本的评价结果表明.高观赏性组的景观与低观赏性组的景观相比,前者的整体美感、正性情绪、形态知觉、色彩知觉维度评价指标及其所含测项的评分均高于后者,彼此差异达到极显著或非常显著的水平,而负性感受维度评价指标评分则是后者极显著地高于前者,而且其测项评分也显著高于前者.本研究编制的量表能够对城市绿化景观观赏性进行有效测评.

ABSTRACT

A child analysis and a subsequent family therapy are presented and discussed in terms of Sander’s monumental contributions to infant-parent development and clinical theory. I draw on earlier discussions with Sander on these topics and note how his insights validate a certain kind of child analytic technique I practice.     

Karl Barth on the Ascension: An Appreciation and Critique

This exposition of Barth's doctrine of the ascension in Volume IV of the Church Dogmatics –'one of the major works of ascension theology'– begins by highlighting some central themes in representative patristic and modern discussions of the ascension and then provides a close and critical reading of the Dogmatics . Of special interest are questions regarding Barth's understanding of the specificity of the Christ-event, the structure of his doctrine of reconciliation, the relation of ontology and soteriology, and the function of the doctrine of the ascension in a thoroughly a posteriori theology.     

城市绿化景观观赏性的眼动研究

采用眼动实验方法,观测52名大学生和研究生观看观赏性高低不同的城市绿化景观的眼动数据.结果表明,对于观赏性较高的景观,被试的注视时间增多,注视次数增加,平均眼跳幅度减小;注视点相对比较集中于某些区域而形成观察兴趣区并对兴趣区内的景观投注大量注视时间,延长每次注视时间(注视点持续时间),而且瞳孔有所扩大.研究结果揭示了城市绿化景观观赏性相关眼动特征.

An Appreciation of Hal Childs' Critique of Historical Jesus Research

Biblical scholars have been exceedingly slow to grasp the implications of the Heisenberg principle, namely, that the observer is always a part of the field being observed, and disturbs that field by the very act of observation. In terms of the interpretive task, this means that there can be no question of an objective view of Jesus as he really was. Objective view; is itself an oxymoron; every view is subjective, from a particular angle of vision. We always encounter the biblical text with interests. We always have a stake in our reading of it. We always have angles of vision that can be helpful or harmful in interpreting texts. Historical writing does not treat reality; it treats the interpreter's relation to it, according to Brian Stock. All history, said the poet Wallace Stevens, is modern history. And historical criticism is a form of criticism of the present, according to Walter Kasper. All that is true, but only partially. For historical criticism can still help us recover an understanding of that past that holds out to us present meaning.     

Enhancement of Sander illusion in minimal form

This paper reports the effects of systematically reducing the number of component lines in the Sander parallelograms upon judgments of the relative lengths of the diagonal lines. The illusion was maximal when the parallelogram was reduced to its minimal form, viz., three parallel lines remained with all other lines, including the diagonals, omitted.     

Wayne G. Rollins' Soul and Psyche: An Appreciation
