This article applies David W. Galenson’s (2006) typology of artistic creativity to pastoral theology. Galenson identifies two types of painters—conceptualists and experimentalists—and
shows that their most important innovations occur at different stages of an artist’s career, that their methods are very different,
and that each type produces predictable career frustrations which may, however, be counteracted. The fact that these types
are found among sculptors, poets, novelists and film directors leads Galenson to propose that they are also found among scholars,
thus inviting application of the findings of the study to pastoral theology as a discipline and to individuals who identify
themselves as pastoral theologians. Galenson’s work is supplemented by Thomas Dormandy’s (2000) study of older painters. 相似文献

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to examine career experiences of UK-based female youth soccer players from a holistic perspective with a view to producing a grounded theory of factors contributing to career/talent development and transitions in UK youth female soccer.MethodologyA Grounded Theory methodology (Corbin & Strauss, 2008) was used. Negative case (Denzin, 1989) former female soccer players (N = 13), their best friend (N = 13), soccer coaches (N = 4), and teachers (N = 8) took part in semi-structured interviews about factors associated with talent development and career transitions in female youth soccer.ResultsMultiple social agents (players, team-mates, peers, teachers, parents and siblings) need to optimally interact to ensure that an optimal talent development and learning environment is created. This will provide a supportive holistic talent development environment, lead to adaptive player-level changes, and a greater chance of successful athletic and dual career development.ConclusionsThis study presents a rich understanding of the dual careers of players who did not make it in female soccer. By considering their perspectives alongside of a range of important social agents, we have been able to construct a substantive grounded theory of factors contributing to career/talent development and transitions in UK youth female soccer. As a result, these findings may contribute to policy and practice development in UK female youth soccer. 相似文献

The study investigated ways to achieve sustainable career management as well as talent management for employees of a wholesale and retail industry operating in the city of Polokwane, South Africa. Employees (n = 85; females = 47%) completed a questionnaire on their perceptions and experiences of the use of training and development activities to support career management and talent development in their organisation. Data were analysed to predict the extent to which aspects of career management and talent development were explained by training and development within the work setting. Findings from the regression analysis indicate significant effects of the frequency of training needs assessment on career and talent management effectiveness. Significant effects of induction, career-focused job rotation practices, provision of mentors on career and talent development effectiveness are also shown. Career-focused training programmes and development variables appear to have a complementary effect on career management and talent management effectiveness. 相似文献

The recognition heuristic is a noncompensatory strategy for inferring which of two alternatives, one recognized and the other
not, scores higher on a criterion. According to it, such inferences are based solely on recognition. We generalize this heuristic
to tasks with multiple alternatives, proposing a model of how people identify the consideration sets from which they make
their final decisions. In doing so, we address concerns about the heuristic’s adequacy as a model of behavior: Past experiments
have led several authors to conclude that there is no evidence for a noncompensatory use of recognition but clear evidence
that recognition is integrated with other information. Surprisingly, however, in no study was this competing hypothesis—the
compensatory integration of recognition—formally specified as a computational model. In four studies, we specify five competing
models, conducting eight model comparisons. In these model comparisons, the recognition heuristic emerges as the best predictor

To examine the unity and diversity of inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptom domains of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) in a clinical sample of adolescents with ADHD. Parents and adolescents were administered a semi-structured
diagnostic interview, the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children — Present and Lifetime
Version (K-SADS-PL), to assess adolescent ADHD. Data from 201 parent interviews and 189 adolescent interviews were examined.
Four potential factor structures for the 18 ADHD symptoms were tested using confirmatory factor analysis: two models with
correlated factors and two bifactor models. A bifactor model with two specific factors best accounted for adolescent symptoms,
according to both parent and adolescents’ reports. Replication of these findings from behavioral rating scales completed for
this sample by parents and teachers indicates that the findings are not method– or informant-specific. The results suggest
that there is an important unitary component to ADHD symptoms and separable dimensional traits of Inattention and Hyperactivity/Impulsivity. 相似文献

We aimed to assess which comorbid problems (oppositional defiant behaviors, anxiety, autistic traits, motor coordination problems,
and reading problems) were most associated with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); to determine whether these
comorbid problems shared executive and motor problems on an endophenotype level with ADHD; and to determine whether executive
functioning (EF)—and motor-endophenotypes supported the hypothesis that ADHD with comorbid problems is a qualitatively different
phenotype than ADHD without comorbid problems. An EF—and a motor-endophenotype were formed based on nine neuropsychological
tasks administered to 816 children from ADHD—and control-families. Additional data on comorbid problems were gathered using
questionnaires. Results indicated that oppositional defiant behaviors appeared the most important comorbid problems of ADHD,
followed by autistic traits, and than followed by motor coordination problems, anxiety, and reading problems. Both the EF—and
motor-endophenotype were correlated and cross-correlated in siblings to autistic traits, motor coordination problems and reading
problems, suggesting ADHD and these comorbid problems may possibly share familial/genetic EF and motor deficits. No such results
were found for oppositional defiant behaviors and anxiety. ADHD in co-occurrence with comorbid problems may not be best seen
as a distinct subtype of ADHD, but further research is warranted.

Simulation in the Social Sciences. Computer simulation—hereafter just called ‘simulation’— more and more is getting an important tool in scientific research
and development. Simulations provide powerful means for quite different scientific disciplines, for instance for cosmology
as well as for economics, and it seems that they can help to extend the borderline of science. However, from a methodological
point of view, besides their benefits one can identify several theoretical problems which can occur in the process of scientific
research. Some of these problems shall be discussed and consequences of these problems for the use of simulations shall be

Identity control theory (Kerpelman, Pittman, & Lamke, Journal of Adolescent Research, 12: 325–346, 1997) and the literature on possible selves (Markus & Nurius, American Psychologist, 41: 954–969, 1986) and family influences on adolescents’ vocational choices (e.g., Otto, Journal of Career Development, 27: 111–117, 2000; Whiston & Keller, The Counseling Psychologist, 32: 493–568, 2004) were used to guide this study of young women’s career aspirations. How mother–daughter and father–daughter
relationships were associated with young women’s certainty about their anticipated future careers was addressed with data
from 304 female undergraduates. Findings indicated that parent–daughter connectedness predicted the young women’s anticipated
distress, as well as their willingness to change to fit parental views should their parents disagree with their career aspirations.
In addition, anticipated distress mediated associations between willingness to change and connectedness with parents, and
between willingness to change and father–daughter career discussions. Discussing career goals with mother increased mother’s
influence, but decreased father’s influence, on daughter’s career certainty under conditions of father–daughter disagreement
about career choice. The ability to separate her own feelings from those of her father was particularly important in reducing
the daughter’s willingness to change her career goals to fit maternal or paternal expectations. Collectively, these findings
offer additional insights about the role of parent–adolescent relationships in understanding young women’s career aspirations
and note the importance of considering the distinct influences of mothers and fathers on their daughters’ career goals and

Daniel Kolak’s theory of synchronic consciousness according to which the entire range of dissociative phenomena, from pathologies
such as MPD and schizophrenia to normal dream states, are best explained in terms of consciousness becoming simultaneously
identified as many selves, has revolutionary therapeutic implications for neurology and psychiatry. All these selves, according
to Kolak—even the purely imaginary ones that exist as such only in our dreams—are not just conscious but also self-conscious,
with beliefs, intentions, living lives informed by memories (confabulatory, in the case of the fictional ones) and personal
histories. Kolak’s derivation of psychiatrically relevant aspects of his theory—a neurological rendition of a Kantian transcendental
argument—can be given a straightforward neurological, and therefore open to scientific scrutiny, interpretation that would
then more easily lend itself to the clinical setting in which these perplexing phenomena, along with their purveyors, must

The study was designed to examine the competitive state anxiety and self-confidence of rhythmic gymnasts participating in the Greek national competition. 86 participants, ages 11 and 12 years, completed the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2, 1 hr. before competition. The athletes, classified by performance (high and low performance) and participation in the finals (finalists and nonfinalists), responded to the three subscales: Cognitive Anxiety, Somatic Anxiety, and Self-confidence. Analyses indicated differences in Self-confidence between high versus low performance groups and finalists versus nonfinalists. No significant differences were found on Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety. In a regression analysis, Self-confidence was the only significant predictor of performance for this sample. Implications refer to the development of strategies to enhance self-confidence in order to improve the gymnast's performance during competition. 相似文献

Career success of early employees was analyzed from a power perspective and a developmental network perspective. In a predictive field study with 112 employees mentoring support and mentors’ power were assessed in the first wave, employees’ networking was assessed after two years, and career success (i.e. income and hierarchical position) and career satisfaction were assessed after three years. Networking was the most robust predictor of career success. Mentoring received predicted career satisfaction and its effects on objective career success were mediated by networking. Further, mentoring by a powerful mentor predicted objective career success beyond networking. Based on previous findings we argue that these findings underscore the critical relationship between early career employees’ networking behaviors and mentoring received. 相似文献

The talent management literature declares talent management a prime concern for HRM professionals while the careers literature calls talent management archaic. Three sets of assumptions identified through comparative review of both streams of the literature were tested in a large-scale survey (n = 941). We found more support for the assumptions advocated in the talent management literature. Those who organizations consider their ‘best’ people are more often found in traditional-organizational careers – both in terms of employer inducements and employee attitudes. Traditional–organizational careers yield more career satisfaction than careers displaying more boundaryless features. Individuals' career types are mostly determined by supervisor-rated performance, much more so than by personal career orientation. 相似文献

The present article reports a study on the use of a multiple feedback methodology for creativity evaluation in the case of
Romanian Easter eggs. Four groups of evaluators —i.e. ethnographers, priests, art teachers and folk artists—all members of
professional communities relevant for this particular folk art participated in the study. They almost unanimously appreciated
‘traditional’ wax decorated eggs as highly creative for their designs, aesthetics and the hard work and talent they require
but opinions diverged when commenting on the creativity of other types of Easter eggs. At a more general level, two broad
evaluation patters were found, corresponding to whether respondents participate or not in decoration practices. Identifying
these patterns comes to reinforce the idea that creativity evaluations, as well as creative activity, are rooted in the social
and cultural contexts of the participants and these contexts share important similarities but also marked differences. 相似文献

The present study explored the relations of emotional self-efficacy, career indecision and motivation in a sample of 200 French university students. Results from standard multiple regression analyses showed that emotional self-efficacy appeared the best predictor of intrinsic motivation toward education. The three dimensions of career indecision, as measured by CDDQ, do not revealed good predictors of intrinsic motivation. Concerning amotivation, inconsistent information (due to unreliable information, internal and external conflicts) is the best predictor of amotivation. Emotional self-efficacy also explains amotivation. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed. 相似文献

Burnout has an important impact upon the professional satisfaction of clergy. Identifying protective behaviors that may prevent
against burnout is important for the long-term emotional health of individual clergy as well as the wider church. This research
reports findings among 358 parish-based clergy that identifies the prevalence of burnout and correlates this data with demographic
risk factors and protective behaviors. Clergy who met criteria for burnout were younger, identified themselves as being depressed
and unsatisfied with their spiritual life, and have endured a traumatic church placement. This research also suggests that
having a variety of interests and activities outside of one’s vocation may protect against burnout. In particular, behaviors
that enhance relationships—such as seeking mentors and attending retreats—as well as pursuing outside activities—such as regular
exercise and scholarly reading—protect against burnout. Further implications for the wider church are discussed. 相似文献

I argue against the tendency in the philosophy of science literature to link abduction to the inference to the best explanation
(IBE), and in particular, to claim that Peircean abduction is a conceptual predecessor to IBE. This is not to discount either
abduction or IBE. Rather the purpose of this paper is to clarify the relation between Peircean abduction and IBE in accounting
for ampliative inference in science. This paper aims at a proper classification—not justification—of types of scientific reasoning.
In particular, I claim that Peircean abduction is an in-depth account of the process of generating explanatory hypotheses,
while IBE, at least in Peter Lipton’s thorough treatment, is a more encompassing account of the processes both of generating
and of evaluating scientific hypotheses. There is then a two-fold problem with the claim that abduction is IBE. On the one
hand, it conflates abduction and induction, which are two distinct forms of logical inference, with two distinct aims, as
shown by Charles S. Peirce; on the other hand it lacks a clear sense of the full scope of IBE as an account of scientific

Metaethical—or, more generally, metanormative—realism faces a serious epistemological challenge. Realists owe us—very roughly
speaking—an account of how it is that we can have epistemic access to the normative truths about which they are realists.
This much is, it seems, uncontroversial among metaethicists, myself included. But this is as far as the agreement goes, for
it is not clear—nor uncontroversial—how best to understand the challenge, what the best realist way of coping with it is,
and how successful this attempt is. In this paper I try, first, to present the challenge in its strongest version, and second,
to show how realists—indeed, robust realists—can cope with it. The strongest version of the challenge is, I argue, that of
explaining the correlation between our normative beliefs and the independent normative truths. And I suggest an evolutionary
explanation (of a pre-established harmony kind) as a way of solving it. 相似文献

Theories of epistemology make reference—via the perspective of an observer—to the structure of information transfer, which
generates reality, of which the observer himself forms a part. It can be shown that any epistemological approach which implies
the participation of tautological structural elements in the information transfer necessarily leads to an antinomy. Nevertheless,
since the time of Aristotle the paradigm of mathematics—and thus tautological structure—has always been a hidden ingredient
in the various concepts of knowledge acquisition or general theories of information transfer. We hold that Darwin’s Evolutionary
Theory is the first scientific theory which consistently presupposes a non-tautological structure for the information transfer
and, at the same time, keeps it strictly distinct from the tautological metric of scientific observation. The consequences
of this technique—namely the dissociation of information from intentionality—have not yet been fully drawn. 相似文献
