On the rationale that group psychotherapy focuses on interaction processes in close relationships, our study sought to investigate the hypothesis that small group therapy would be effective in enhancing intimate friendship in a dyadic relationship. The study group consisted of 102 elementary school students who had been referred for counseling help. Matched by age, sex, and similarity of problem, each pair of students was divided into an experimental group (N = 55) and a control group (N = 47). The experimental group contained eight small treatment groups and the control group contained seven matching small groups, leaving one special education group with no control. The results support our hypothesis that group psychotherapy positively affects intimate friendship of girls and boys. They further suggest the boys' need for such an experience, since without it they markedly deteriorate in intimate friendship. Implications for the group leader are derived from the correlations between gains in intimate friendship and group intimacy.  相似文献

This paper describes how a particular content can be ascribed to verbal group work with psychiatrically hospitalized children. This focus can then provide the basis for psychotherapeutic intervention in which resistance and transference are interpreted while underlying conflicts are uncovered and worked on. The theme of the group, health issues and sexuality, was derived from the children's expressed needs on the unit. The use of psychotherapy as a basis for subsequent education about these health issues is discussed. Also described is the way in which the verbal medium was used in conjunction with other unit procedures.  相似文献

Two hundred and seventy-two preadolescent males and females aged 9-11 were administered a paper and pencil questionnaire designed to assess their degree of parent-peer compliance. On a majority of the items, youths in this age group were clearly parent compliant. There was, however, a significant age trend in the direction of peer compliance, with males demonstrating the greatest degree of change. This article examines group therapy with children and adolescents impacted by the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, with a focus on the role of metaphor, enactment, and the creative arts therapies in trauma treatment. Attention is given to the importance of fantasies, family structure, and culture in determining how the child constructs and processes the events. Examples are derived from ongoing, trauma-focused groups with traumatically bereaved children who lost parents, as well as from ongoing drama therapy groups in which traumatic themes emerged.  相似文献

The demand for therapy groups for child sexual assault victims has risen as detection of abuse has increased, but little has been published about conducting and evaluating such groups. The authors present a comprehensive review of the literature and describe their sixteen-week therapy group with seven eleven- and twelve-year-old girls. Treatment themes, activities, group process issues, and psychometric findings on the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale and the Child Behavior Checklist are discussed. This paper describes reconstructive group therapy with people affected by AIDS. It begins with the therapeutic need as we defined it in the AIDS-affected community and the practicalities of the group therapies we offered. The reconstructive perspective, based on personal construct theory, is then explored and applied to interpret both the psychosocial functioning of AIDS-affected people and group therapy. The group therapy process is described: client engagement and group beginnings, goals, group rules, leadership roles, group experiments, group issues and endings. Some problems that arose are then identified; and a sample of group process is provided. Finally, the appropriateness of the reconstructive perspective and of group therapy for these clients is discussed, together with the identification of the major ethical issues and some recommendations for its use.  相似文献

This article explores the clinical dimensions of male child sexual abuse, and its effects upon these children in their adult lives. The number of men receiving therapeutic help for their sexually abusive past is unknown. Prevalence figures are equally elusive, but reporting of this abuse has steadily increased over the last decade. The majority of these children never tell anyone about their sexual victimization, and enter their adulthoods with long-term psychological difficulties. Some assumptions of interpersonal theory were tested among a population of preadolescent children. Children were videotaped while interacting with a same-sex peer, and their verbal and nonverbal communications were judged by other peers who were not participants in the study. Children rated as socially unattractive by their peers had communication styles characterized by nonverbal visual hostility. These results support the assumption that negative nonverbal communications are associated with relationship difficulties.  相似文献
