中国现代学术体制中的"哲学"

我以极大的兴趣读了张祥龙教授对发表于<中国学术>上的拙文<儒家经验与哲学话语>所做出的回应.我觉得我们对"现代儒家哲学"概念所存在的一些根本困境颇有同感.我以为我们在诊断症结方面,比在澄清困境时使用的策略方面所持有的分歧要小.我们的主要分歧源于我强调使用狭义哲学概念的必要,而张教授则倾向于使用广义的哲学观念.     

当代功利主义哲学

虽然功利主义自20世纪70年代以来失去了一统天下的地位,但是它目前在当代道德哲学和政治哲学中仍然是一支重要力量。按照其论证的逻辑,我们可以把功利主义分为三种,即行为功利主义、规则功利主义以及双层功利主义,其中后两者是为克服前者的困难而产生出来的,同时它们也产生出了新的困难。然而,无论在理论层面还是政策层面,功利主义在当代西方社会都占有重要的地位。     

当代美国哲学

本文无意对当代哲学界作一番中立的、不偏不倚的描述,而是要对一些我认为重要的当代哲学的发展情况作一介绍。当代美国哲学虽然极其多样化,但其中仍有一些主题可寻。如今在美国占主导地位的哲学流派是所谓的“分析哲学”。其实,在整个英语世界,分析哲学都是占主导地位的哲学流派。在斯堪的纳维亚国家也是如此,这种现象正日益普遍地波及德国、法国、意大利以及整个拉丁美洲。

Philosophy for Children and the Extrinsic Value of Academic Philosophy

External pressure on Higher Education Institutes in the United Kingdom has brought the question of the extrinsic value of academic philosophy into focus. One line of research into questions about the extrinsic value of philosophy comes from the Philosophy for Children (P4C) movement. There is a large body of literature about the benefits of P4C. This paper argues that the distinctive nature of the P4C pedagogy limits the claims made by the P4C literature about the extrinsic value of philosophy to claims about the value of P4C. While this is not a problem within the P4C literature that recognises these limitations, the paper makes three claims about why it is sometimes inappropriate to extend claims from research into the value of P4C to claims about the value of non-P4C philosophy. It argues that more research is needed to investigate the value of non-P4C philosophy.

应英国埃塞克斯(Essex)大学哲学系主任Simon Crithley教授和牛津大学Andrew Moore博士的邀请,由中英澳暑期哲学学院和山西大学科学技术哲学研究中心资助,我于2002年10月至2003年5月先后在英国埃塞克斯大学和牛津大学做访问学者.

意识问题一直是个古老的哲学和心理学问题。20世纪以来随着科学和技术的发展特别是神经科学和技术的发展,意识研究已受到国际学术界的广泛关注。现已有大量意识产生的假说提出,艾克尔斯、克里克、艾德尔曼等都提出了自己的理论。目前的研究主要集中于克里克的“视觉意识”。但是除了实验科学方法之外,意识的研究还需要依赖哲学思维方法的帮助,如此的“二元论”将对于意识的研究大有裨益。

Kantian Themes in Contemporary Philosophy: Michael Friedman

This paper considers the extent to which Kant's vision of a distinctively 'transcendental' task for philosophy is essentially tied to his views on the foundations of the mathematical and physical sciences. Contemporary philosophers with broadly Kantian sympathies have attempted to reinterpret his project so as to isolate a more general philosophical core not so closely tied to the details of now outmoded mathematical-physical theories (Euclidean geometry and Newtonian physics). I consider two such attempts, those of Strawson and McDowell, and argue that they fundamentally distort the original Kantian impulse. I then consider Buchdahl's attempt to preserve the link between Kantian philosophy and the sciences while simultaneously generalizing Kant's doctrines in light of later scientific developments. I argue that Buchdahl's view, while not adequate as in interpretation of Kant in his own eighteenth century context, is nonetheless suggestive of an historicized and relativized revision of Kantianism that can do justice to both Kant's original philosophical impulse and the radical changes in the sciences that have occurred since Kant's day.
