A microcomputer-based tracking task is described in detail. The program that controls this task was written in Pascal and 6502 assembler language and was designed to run on an Apple IIe computer. The program was designed to allow the experimenter to vary such parameters as the velocity of the stimulus signal. In addition, several indicants of performance are recorded simultaneously and are averaged over selected time intervals during each trial. The paper also illustrates the applications of this particular computer program in the study of motor control and learning.  相似文献

Two Turbo Pascal (versions 3.0 and 4.0) software timers for the IBM microcomputer family are described: one with a 55-msec resolution and another with a 1-msec resolution. Both can be implemented without additional hardware requirements. The 55-msec timer makes use of the system-time-of-day clock; the 1-msec timer is a Turbo Pascal translation of the timer described by Bührer, Sparrer, and Weitkunat (1987). Probit analysis is a statistical technique that can be used for the computation of psychophysical thresholds, although it was originally developed for the analysis of pharmacological and toxicological data. Probit analysis may be applied to psychophysical data if the method of constant stimuli has been used for data collection. A computer program written in APPLESOFT BASIC that performs probit analyses on such psychophysical data is presented and explained.  相似文献

The Self-Monitoring Analysis System is a set of microcomputer programs that were developed to remove clinical judgment from the task of behavioral assessment using self-monitoring diaries. The program is written in Turbo Pascal and runs on MS-DOS (16-bit) or CP/M (8-bit) microcomputer systems. The program allows the user to custom design data bases with hundreds of binary, categorical, integral, and real variables. Full-screen data-entry forms can be custom designed, and random access files allow for flexible data entry and editing. The program makes extensive utilization of Pascal’s very flexible data structure capabilities. Dynamic allocation of memory allows the program to maximize its use of available RAM. Data from a patient with diabetes is presented as a case study illustrating the system’s utility.  相似文献

Vibrotactile thresholds were determined at 250 and 400 Hz in the presence of (1) the sounds emitted by the vibrator, (2) continuous tonal or narrow-band masking noise, or (3) a pulsed tone synchronized with the vibrator signal. The measure of a cross-modality effect was the threshold shift occurring between each condition and the control condition, in which earmuff silencers eliminated the vibrator sounds. Continuous tones or noise had no effect upon vibrotactile thresholds. However, auditory signals synchronized with the vibrator signals did significantly elevate vibrotactile thresholds.  相似文献

Micro Experimental Laboratory (MEL) is a third-generation integrated software system for experimental research. The researcher fills in forms, and MEL writes the experimental program, runs the experiments, and analyzes the data. MEL includes a form-based user interface, automatic programming, computer tutorials, a compiler, a real-time data acquisition system, database management, statistical analysis, and subject scheduling. It can perform most reaction time, questionnaire, and text comprehension experiments with little or no programming. It includes a Pascal-like programming language and can call routines written in standard languages. MEL operates on IBM PC compatible computers and supports most display controllers. MEL maintains millisecond timing with high-speed text and graphics presentation. MEL provides a systematic approach to dealing with nine concerns in running an experimental laboratory.  相似文献

A microcomputer (IBM-PC) interface for decoding ultrasonic telemetry pulse-modulated signals from either unisensor or multisensor (time-multiplexed) transmitters is described. Pulse intervals, recorded by the interface, and corresponding independently measured parameter levels (i.e., swimming directions, speeds, depths, water temperature, and ambient irradiance levels) are entered into a calibration file. The IBM-PC uses this file to convert the signal’s pulse intervals to sensor states and displays these in real time. States of up to eight multiplexed sensors can be displayed concurrently in either numerical or graphical format (as histograms) with low resolution (16 axis divisions) or, for a particular sensor, with high resolution (70 axis divisions). The circuit components mount on the IBM Prototype Card (with foil for interfacing logic) allowing easy installation in the IBM-PC’s expansion slot. The 35K of controlling software is written in Pascal with four subroutines in assembly language.  相似文献

Simple software techniques for the digital analysis of impedance cardiography data are described. The software digitizes simultaneous impedance and ECG signals, averages these signals over time on a beat-by-beat basis, processes the averaged signals to locate relevant features, and computes heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output for the averaged period. The source and executable code, written in Pascal for a PDP-11 with standard peripheral addressing and a VT125 graphics terminal, is available from the authors.  相似文献

Albino rats were trained in a delayed discriminated conditional avoidance response (CAR) to study the possible effects of varying the various training parameters,viz., the CS-UCS interval, the stimulus and strength of the inter-trial and intersession intervals on the acquisition and performance of the CAR. The response latency (RL) was related to the CS-UCS interval in a serial trend while there were response failures (ER%) at both extremes. The efficiency of the CAR were also varied according to the stimulus strength, improving up to 2 mA intensities and declining thereafter. The CAR deteriorated, as reflected in increased magnitudes of RL and ER%, with increasing intertriai intervals of 4 min or more, both in trained and trainee rats, but was not significantly affected by increasing intersession intervals unless it was 7 days or above. These findings are discussed in the light of the known principles of classical conditioning as well as of electrophysiological findings from instrumental animal conditioning studies.  相似文献

A professional ethics program was recently developed and implemented as a comparative values course at the University of Puget Sound. This article is a report ontheprogram, “Professional Ethics fora Technological Era.”The program consists of two courses: “Ethics for a Technological Era,” and “Values: Conflict and Compromise.” The first course emphasizes skills necessary for ethical decision making. The second course follows through with an opportunity to apply these skills to a major social policy program. A program for the conversion of TIFF files of scanned images for display on IBM PCs is described. The program allows line drawings from various sources to be displayed in Turbo Pascal programs. A hardware and software system for the cost-effective preparation of interview data is described. Scantron optical scanning hardware and DataBlocks software were used to prepare ASCII data files from structured interviews and questionnaires. These data were then edited for analysis with SPSS-X Data Entry software. Three different processes for preparing interview data were compared. Time, personnel, hardware, and software costs were projected for each process, as well as comparative risks to the integrity of data. A scanning procedure saves time and money, and it reduces the risk of errors.  相似文献

The DECtalk text-to-speech conversion system offers promise for both basic and applied research. This paper is a report on a program library for the system that utilizes the routines by Edwards (1987). The library contains a number of useful Pascal routines which simplify the basic control of DECtalk. The demonstration program that we have devised should assist users of the system.  相似文献

Sounds that are equivalent in all aspects except for their temporal envelope are perceived differently. Sounds with rising temporal envelopes are perceived as louder, longer, and show a greater change in loudness throughout their duration than sounds with falling temporal envelopes. Stecker and Hafter (2000) Stecker, G. C. and Hafter, E. R. 2000. An effect of temporal asymmetry on loudness. Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 107: 33583368.  [Google Scholar] proposed that participants ignore the decay portion of sounds with falling temporal envelopes to account for observed loudness differences, but there is no empirical evidence support this hypothesis. To test this idea, two duration-matching experiments were performed. One experiment used broadband noise and the other natural stimuli. Different groups of participants were given different instruction sets asking them to (1) simply match the duration or (2) include all aspects of the sounds. Both experiments produced the same result. The first instruction set, which represented participants' natural biases, yielded shorter subjective durations for sounds with falling temporal envelopes than for sounds with rising temporal envelopes. By contrast, asking participants to include all aspects of the sounds significantly reduced the size of the asymmetry in subjective duration, a result that supports Stecker and Hafter's hypothesis. This segregation of the stimulus at the perceptual level is consistent with observed asymmetries in loudness change and overall loudness for sounds with rising and falling temporal envelopes, but it does not account for the entire effect. The remaining portion of the effect, after considering biases due to instructions, is not likely a result of adaptation but could be associated with persistence. The amount of persistence was inferred from behavioral masking data obtained for these sounds.  相似文献

Components of a computer solution for fraction problems in arithmetic have an analog in a new approach to educational task analysis. The components may be called goal-setting or planning elements, in contrast to the goal-satisfying or behavioral steps emphasized in much contemporary task analysis. A hypothetical tutorial dialogue in which a student is asked to tell a tutor what step to perform next is presented as an example of the emphasis of the planning side of computation. Explicit identification of goal-setting elements of a task is illustrated by analysis of the task of converting a pair of fractions to a new pair with a common denominator. The decomposition thus produces is simulated with two computer programs: (1) a LISP program using a set of production rules consisting of conditions to be met and subsequent actions to be taken and (2) a PROLOG program stating goals and solving goals explicitly.  相似文献

EVE, theEarly VisionEmulation software, is a set of computer programs designed to compute models of early visual processing. EVE may be used with a wide variety of models concerning spatial detection and discrimination, motion analysis, and issues of spatial sampling. EVE is modular and flexible. It runs under the UNIX operating system, and is device-independent. We describe the implementation of the EVE software and discuss how it may be applied to several visual models.  相似文献

Test administration by computer has been available for some time, yet such procedures have been little more than electronic substitutes for conventional paper-and-peneil tests. The Flexible Tester allows the researcher to ask as many subquestions as desired and make all questions contingent upon subject response. The logic of questioning is created through a dialogue with the program rather than by direct programming. The program is suitable for any questioning procedure, including structured interviews expressible in the false/true format.  相似文献
