Pioneer profiles: An interview with Don Baer

This is an interview with Donald M. Baer. The interview includes discussion of his education at the University of Chicago, his work at the University of Washington and the University of Kansas, events that influenced his career, and his perspectives on various issues. His accomplishments include developing the standards for the practice of applied behavior analysis, creating an empirical research base for language training for people with severe disabilities, initiating procedures that led to generalized imitation, formulating experimental designs for applied behavioral research, and devising procedures for generalization and maintenance of behavior.     

Therapist sexual abuse: An interview with Jill Sinclair

This interview, conducted in January 1991 with Jill Sinclair (Co-ordinator of the Support Network for those Abused by Therapists), covers: (a) the semantics of therapist sexual abuse, (b) its effect on clients, (c) suggestions for therapists working with clients abused by a previous therapist, (d) the current and future work of the Support Network, and (e) the question of whether or not therapists who have sexually abused their clients should be rehabilitated.

The interview begins by exploring some of the ways in which the interpersonal and organisational skills she developed in each role influenced the way shem carried out her responsibilities in others. It also covers issues of effectiveness and accountability, her views about the aims of careers education and guidance and its place in the National Curriculum, the provision of adult guidance, and the influence of research on policy.
