Discussion of ethical issues which concern community psychologists and other mental health professionals has generated new emphasis on the psychiatric client as consumer. In light of the studies questioning the efficacy and ethics of various clinical procedures, it would seem that the client-consumer is being asked to accept treatment which is often less than desirable. In light of recent trends to safeguard the rights of the client-consumer, it is now appropriate to focus on the client as evaluator of services contracted. Having clients evaluate clinical services finds its logical fruition in the creation of client advisory boards. Avoiding many of the problems of citizen mental health advisory boards, client boards ensure continued and systematic client evaluation of community mental health services. The accomplishments of one client board are offered as evidence that there should be increased emphasis on the consumer as evaluator.  相似文献

The training of interns and practicum students has become a significant part of the overall program of CMHCs over the last decade. Although many centers provide innovative training in areas consistent with the philosophies of community mental health/community psychology, CMHCs consider the outstanding training which they provide to be in the traditional clinical areas. The fact that the revolution envisaged by the early proponents of the CMH/CP ideology has become transformed into an evolution is not cause for dismay but rather constitutes a study in social change. The planned incorporation of additional CMH/CP components into training programs augurs well for the future. However, the future of training programs is dependent on the extent to which the profession as a whole marshals its resources to not only maintain but increase the financial resources required for maintaining our network of training facilities—CMHCs along with other facilities.  相似文献

Using a quasi-experimental design, changes in the numbers of mental health facilities between 1964 and 1974 were examined for a sample of 50 nonmetropolitan catchment areas that established a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) before January 1973 and a sample that did not. Compared to non-CMHC areas, CMHC areas had a slightly greater number of general hospital psychiatric units in 1974. Nevertheless, the rate of increase in such units over the 10-year period was not significantly different between the two types of areas. Other findings supported the conclusion that the number of outpatient and day/night facilities continued to increase in areas not participating in the CMHC program, but that the program produced even greater numbers of such facilities in areas that did participate. This growth, though, occurred both through introducing additional facilities and supplanting existing ones.  相似文献

Research that focusses on consumer satisfaction with child and adolescent mental health services is reviewed. Satisfaction is broadly conceived to include any study where the perspectives of children, adolescents or their parents about mental health services were gathered and presented. Important conceptual issues in research on consumer satisfaction with children's mental health services are discussed. Some of the general methodological issues that have faced satisfaction researchers are also considered. The wide range of methodological variations that have been used to investigate this topic area are outlined. The most significant findings of previous research are presented and critiqued. In conclusion, suggestions are made about the most fruitful directions for future research.  相似文献

This study was concerned with the consequences of person-environment (P-E) congruence at work in terms of Holland's model of vocational preference. Whereas there has been some work on P-E fit and job satisfaction, and P-E fit and stress, few studies have looked at the relationship between P-E fit, job satisfaction and mental health. It was predicted that those people with a poor P-E fit would have higher levels of mental distress and lower levels of job satisfaction than those who experienced a good P-E fit. The results substantiated the major hypotheses of this study and are discussed in terms of the measurement and causes of job satisfaction. Criticisms and limitations of this type of approach are also considered.  相似文献

An on-line computerized management information system has been developed at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital and is currently being implemented at Salt Lake Community Mental Health Center. An introduction to this system, including systems design and procedures for development, are presented. This study tested a series of actor–partner interdependence models of coparental communication, relational satisfaction, and mental health in stepfamilies. Participants included 127 couples (N = 254). Results revealed 2 actor‐oriented models whereby parents' and stepparents' coparental communication quality positively predicted their own (but not their partners') satisfaction and mental health. A final model revealed that parents' relational satisfaction mediated the effect of coparental communication on their own mental health. A similar pattern emerged for stepparents, although coparental communication continued to have a direct, positive effect on stepparents' mental health. Importantly, parents' coparental communication produced an inverse partner effect on stepparents' mental health, highlighting the potential stress stepparents may experience as they are called upon to help raise their spouse's offspring.  相似文献

The results of an empirical study of the use of evaluation data in community mental health centers are reported. A mailed survey on evaluation use was conducted among the directors of 164 community mental health centers in 19 states; 140 completed questionnaires were returned. Results indicate that certain types of data have important impacts in a majority of centers. Systems resources management data were most highly used, followed by need assessment data, and client utilization data. Least used were data on outcomes of intervention and community impact. Data use appears closely tied to the utility of the data in carrying out priority management tasks in a center. Findings have important implications for community psychologists who plan, administer, or evaluate mental health services. The broader role of evaluation in community psychology is also discussed.  相似文献

Conclusion In this paper we have attempted to outline the basis upon which the Yeshiva University project is developing its curriculum. For the past three years and for the next two years those associated with the program will attempt to formulate the courses and training programs which could serve as the basis for a mental health educational program in seminaries. It is the hope of the Yeshiva University project that its curriculum will serve as another milestone in utilizing the resources of religion and those of other mental health disciplines to the benefit of all those who turn to religious leaders for help and guidance.In this article the term clergy is used instead of rabbi because many of the statements made are applicable to all clergy.  相似文献
