Supervisors Safety Response (SSR) has been closely linked to workplace safety, and, as perceived by workers, it is considered to be one of the most influential issues with regard to employees compliance with safety behaviours. This study defines and tests a bifactorial and a monofactorial model of the SSR. Two facets of the SSR were measured: (a) supervisors response toward workers safe or unsafe behaviour and (b) supervisors safety attitudes and behaviours applied to their own work. In three samples of injured blue-collar workers ( N(1) = 110, N(2) = 123, N(3) = 104), multisample confirmatory factor analyses, using maximum likelihood estimation, were conducted to test both the bifactorial and the monofactorial model. Both models provide an overall good fit, but parsimony and the high correlation between factors in the bifactorial model support the monofactorial model. Attention is drawn to the measurement of the SSR as a diagnostic tool useful in selecting intervention goals, specifically integrating supervisors safety behaviour.  相似文献

The variable-criteria sequential stopping rule (SSR) is a method for conducting planned experiments in stages after the addition of new subjects until the experiment is stopped because the p value is less than or equal to a lower criterion and the null hypothesis has been rejected, the p value is above an upper criterion, or a maximum sample size has been reached. Alpha is controlled at the expected level. The table of stopping criteria has been validated for a t test or ANOVA with four groups. New simulations in this article demonstrate that the SSR can be used with unequal sample sizes or heterogeneous variances in a t test. As with the usual t test, the use of a separate-variance term instead of a pooled-variance term prevents an inflation of alpha with heterogeneous variances. Simulations validate the original table of criteria for up to 20 groups without a drift of alpha. When used with a multigroup ANOVA, a planned contrast can be substituted for the global F as the focus for the stopping rule. The SSR is recommended when significance tests are appropriate and when the null hypothesis can be tested in stages. Because of its efficiency, the SSR should be used instead of the usual approach to the t test or ANOVA when subjects are expensive, rare, or limited by ethical considerations such as pain or distress.  相似文献

By activating three distinct vasopressin receptor isoforms called V1a-R, V1b-R (V3-R) and V2-R, vasopressin (VP) mediates a wide number of biological effects in mammals and may be involved in several pathological states. Up to now only specific V1a and V2 receptor agonists and antagonists have been successfully designed. The role of the V1b-R still remains partially unknown, due to the lack of selective V1b-R ligands and orally-active molecules, which are crucial tools for investigating the central and peripheral functions or pathological disorders associated with this receptor. In this review, we report the biological and pharmacological properties of the first two specific V1b-R ligands: d[Cha4] AVP, a high affinity V1b-R agonist and SSR149415, a potent orally-active V1b-R antagonist with good selectivity with respect to other VP/OT receptor isoforms and able to control ACTH secretion in vitro and in vivo. Indeed, these molecules constitute invaluable tools for exploring the central and peripheral roles of VP mediated via V1b receptors. Interestingly, SSR149415 displays potent anxiolytic and antidepressant-like activities, indicating that this new class of drugs has a promising therapeutical potential in the treatment of stress-related disorders, anxiety and depression.  相似文献

Sequential stopping rules (SSRs) should augment traditional hypothesis tests in many planned experiments, because they can provide the same statistical power with up to 30% fewer subjects without additional education or software. This article includes new Monte-Carlo-generated power curves and tables of stopping criteria based on the p values from simulated t tests and one-way ANOVAs. The tables improve existing SSR techniques by holding alpha very close to a target value when 1–10 subjects are added at each iteration. The emphasis is on small sample sizes (3–40 subjects per group) and large standardized effect sizes (0.8–2.0). The generality of the tables for dependent samples and one-tailed tests is discussed. SSR methods should be of interest to ethics bodies governing research when it is desirable to limit the number of subjects tested, such as in studies of pain, experimental disease, or surgery with animal or human subjects.  相似文献

A statistical summary representation (SSR) is a phenomenon wherein a target property (e.g., size) is encoded based on the average of the stimulus-set to which it belongs. An SSR has been demonstrated in obligatory judgment tasks; however, to our knowledge no work has examined whether it influences grasps to 3D targets. Here, participants completed a method of adjustment task, and visually and memory-guided grasps in conditions wherein differently sized 3D targets (widths: 20, 30 and 40 mm; height and depth = 10 mm) were presented with equal frequency (i.e., control) and when the smallest (i.e., 20-mm: small-target) and largest (i.e., 40-mm: large-target) targets were presented five times as often as the other targets in the stimulus-set. In the method of adjustment task, responses for the small- and large-target weighting conditions were smaller and larger than the control condition, respectively. In other words, an SSR biased perceptions in the direction of the most frequently presented target in the stimulus-set – a result consistent with the view that perceptions are supported by relative visual information laid down by the ventral visual pathway. In contrast, grip apertures were refractory to target-weighting and was a finding independent of the presence (i.e., visually guided) or absence (i.e., memory-guided) of visual feedback. Furthermore, two one-sided tests showed that peak grip apertures for the different target weighting conditions were within an equivalence boundary. Accordingly, an SSR does not influence 3D grasps and is a finding adding to a growing literature reporting that actions are supported by the absolute visuomotor networks of the dorsal visual pathway.  相似文献

This article presents a random walk model that can be analyzed without recourse to Wald's (1947) approximation, which neglects the excess over the absorbing barriers. Hence, the model yields exact predictions for the absorption probabilities and all mean conditional absorption times. We derive these predictions in some detail and fit them to the extensive data of an identification experiment published by Green et al. (1983). The fit of the model seems satisfactory. The relationship of the model to existing classes of random walk models (SPRT and SSR; see Luce, 1986) is discussed; for certain combinations of its parameters, the model belongs either to the SPRT or to the SSR class, or to both. We stress the theoretical significance of the knowledge of exact results for the evaluation of Wald's approximation and general properties of the several models proposed derived from this approximation.  相似文献

The hypothalamic components of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) are corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) and vasopressin. To test the hypothesis that HPA regulation changes with age, we compared ether and bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection induced stress reactions in adult and 10-day-old Brattleboro rats, which naturally lack vasopressin owing to mutation of the gene (di/di). The LPS stimulus was used also with V(1b) receptor antagonist pretreatment (SSR149415). In adult di/di or V(1b) pretreated rats, we observed normal pituitary and adrenocortical secretory responses, while in all 10-day-old rats stress-induced serum corticosterone increases were marked, but adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) increases were significantly smaller. Compared to control pups the adenohypophysis of the 10-day-old di/di rats responded normally to CRH, but their adrenal glands were hyper-responsive to ACTH, while in adults there was greater secretion at both levels with no difference between the genotypes. The serum transcortin level was higher in adults than pups, with the di/di pups having higher transcortin levels than controls. Hence, using the same stressors in adults and pups with both a genetic model and pharmacological pretreatment, we have shown that the role of vasopressin in ACTH regulation is more important during the neonatal period than in adulthood. Blunted hypophysial sensitivity to CRH and similar adrenal gland sensitivity to ACTH in the pups compared to adults suggest that hypothalamic factors could be responsible for the neonatal stress hyporesponsive period.  相似文献

Corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) plays a pivotal role in the suppression of the gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GRH) pulse generator in response to stress and intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) administration of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). We have previously shown both CRH receptor subtypes, CRH-R1 and CRH-R2, are involved in the stress-induced suppression of LH pulses. The aims of the present study were to examine the role of CRH-R1 and CRH-R2 in CGRP-induced suppression of LH pulses, and to investigate the effects of CGRP on CRH expression in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) and central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA), which have prominent CRH neurone populations that receive dense CGRP innervations. The suppression of LH pulses by CGRP (1.5 microg i.c.v.) was completely prevented by intravenous administration of the CRH-R1 antagonist SSR125543Q (7.5 mg/rat i.v., 30 min before CGRP), but was not affected by the CRH-R2 antagonist, astressin(2)-B (100 microg i.c.v., 10 min before CGRP). CGRP increased the CRH mRNA expression in PVN and CeA. These results provide evidence of a role for CRH-R1 in mediating the suppressive effects of CGRP on pulsatile LH secretion in the female rat, and additionally raise the possibility of an involvement of PVN and CeA CRH neuronal populations in this suppression.  相似文献

Small but reproducible fixation disparities occur in normal subjects when they view certain types of dichoptic stimuli. During dichoptic as well as stereoptic stimulation the motor fusion process determines first the average vergence state of the eyes. The subsequent fine tuning of vergence is shown to depend on the spatial distribution of contrast edges both of the same contrast sign ('stereoptic edges') and of opposite contrast sign ('dichoptic edges'). Stereoptic edges tend to induce superposition attempts of the vergence control system and dichoptic edges tend to antagonise this process. If a single low-contrast dichoptic edge is presented with zero disparity and within a stereoptic reference frame, a fixation disparity of several minutes of arc results. This influences depth vision since dichoptic edges are perceived (as monocular edges) at the actual rather than at the intended fixation distance. The findings explain previous paradoxical results of eg Kaufman and Pitblado who reported seeing depth in opposite-contrast stereograms. Their results seemed to contradict the well-established 'same-sign rule' (SSR) which states that the stereoptic system only detects disparities of edges with the same contrast sign. It is concluded that (i) the SSR holds; (ii) dichoptic (and monocular) edges are seen at the horopter; (iii) the vergence fine tuning prevents superposition of dichoptic edges even if this causes a fixation disparity.  相似文献

It is doubtful whether there ever has been a rise‐fall‐rebirth of the psychology of religion. While the claim has marginal merit for American academic psychology, it has little application in other cultures or even within American psychology of religion outside mainstream psychology. The psychology of religion has always been and remains tied to key individuals who sustain the field. This historical fact is important in understanding the role of the JSSR in the field. Early psychologists of religion such as Hall and James set the pattern for two distinctively different approaches to the psychology of religion. Hall's approach was methodologically restrictive, inherently reductive, and came to dominate the academic psychology of religion. James ‘approach was methodological plural, receptive to the evidential force of religious experience, and quickly marginalized within American psychology. These opposing orientation continue to influence the psychology of religion in societies such as the SSR and its journal. A review of the psychologist editors of JSSR illustrates that the psychology of religion remains a marginal interest of mainstream psychology. It survives because of the interdisciplinary nature of the SSSR and its journal.  相似文献

Kuhn's ‘taxonomic conception’ of natural kinds enables him to defend and re-specify the notion of incommensurability against the idea that it is reference, not meaning/use, that is overwhelmingly important. Kuhn's ghost still lacks any reason to believe that referentialist essentialism undercuts his central arguments in SSR – and indeed, any reason to believe that such essentialism is even coherent, considered as a doctrine about anything remotely resembling our actual science. The actual relation of Kuhn to Kripke-Putnam essentialism, is as follows: Kuhn decisively undermines it – drawing upon the inadequacies of such essentialism when faced with the failure of attempts to instantiate in history or contemporaneously its ‘thought-experiment’ – and leaves the field open instead for his own more ‘realistic’, deflationary way of thinking about the operation of ‘natural kinds’ in science. Forty females and 40 males were shown slides of masculine and feminine phrases controlled for social desirability, sex-linked content, syllable length, and negative semantic construction to evaluate schematic processing on the dimensions of masculinity and femininity. Their responses to the phrases were timed. The BSRI, PAQ, and SSR1Q administered subsequent to the slide presentation were used to categorize subjects into groups of masculine, feminine, androgynous, and undifferentiated. Comparisons between the groups evaluated by the different scales indicated that the PAQ was the best predictor of schematic processing and that the SSRIQ and gender were not predictors of schematic processing. Correlations between the SSRIQ and the masculine and feminine scales of the BSRI and PAQ provided evidence partially supportive of Storms's (1979) theory that sex-role identity influences the development of same-sex-typed attributes but does not influence opposite-sex-typed attributes.  相似文献

The content of conscious perception is known to correlate with steady-state responses (SSRs), yet their causal relationship remains unclear. Can we manipulate conscious perception by directly interfering with SSRs through transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)? Here, we directly addressed this question in three experiments involving binocular rivalry and continuous flash suppression (CFS). Specifically, while participants (N = 24) viewed either binocular rivalry or tried to detect stimuli masked by CFS, we applied sham or real tACS across parieto-occipital cortex at either the same or a different frequency and phase as an SSR eliciting flicker stimulus. We found that tACS did not differentially affect conscious perception in the forms of predominance, CFS detection accuracy, reaction time, or metacognitive sensitivity, confirmed by Bayesian statistics. We conclude that tACS application at frequencies of stimulus-induced SSRs does not have perceptual effects and that SSRs may be epiphenomenal to conscious perception.  相似文献

It has been known for over 30 years that motion information alone is sufficient to yield a vivid impression of three-dimensional object structure. For example, a computer simulation of a transparent sphere, the surface of which is randomly speckled with dots, gives no impression of depth when presented as a stationary pattern on a visual display. As soon as the sphere is made to rotate in a series of discrete steps or frames, its 3-D structure becomes apparent. Three experiments are described which use this stimulus, and find that depth perception in these conditions depends crucially on the spatial and temporal properties of the display:

1. Depth is seen reliably only for between-frame rotations of less than 15°, using two-frame and four-frame sequences.

2. Parametric observations using a wide range of frame durations and inter-frame intervals reveal that depth is seen only for inter-frame intervals below 80 msec and is optimal when the stimulus can be sampled at intervals of about 40-60 msec.

3. Monoptic presentation of two frames of the stimulus is sufficient to yield depth, but the impression is destroyed by dichoptic presentation.

These data are in close agreement with the observed limits of direction perception in experiments using “short-range” stimuli. It is concluded that depth perception in the motion display used in these experiments depends on the outputs of low-level or “short-range” motion detectors.  相似文献

Supplementary methods for the analysis of the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status are made available, including (a) quantifying the number of abnormally low Index scores and abnormally large differences exhibited by a case and accompanying this with estimates of the percentages of the normative population expected to exhibit at least this number of low scores and large differences, (b) estimating the overall abnormality of a case's Index score profile using the Mahalanobis Distance Index (MDI), (c) reporting confidence limits on differences between a case's Index scores, and (d) offering the option of applying a sequential Bonferroni correction when testing for reliable differences. With the exception of the MDI, all the methods can be obtained using the formulas and tables provided in this article. However, for the convenience of clinicians, and to reduce the possibility of clerical error, the methods have also been implemented in a computer program. More importantly, the program allows the methods to be applied when only a subset of the Indexes is available.
