A series of four short experiments indicates that the behaviour of satiated rats in a runway, at the end of which they have previously been rewarded, differs significantly from the behaviour of satiated rats without previous reward in the experimental situation. The former group reach the end box more quickly after having been put in the starting box of the runway and if provided with food in the end box proceed to eat it, although they have just refused similar pieces of food in their home cages. This is shown not to be due to defective satiation or the operation of fear in the control group. When runs and feeding in the end box are separated during the training period, the previously rewarded group still shows a more vigorous response on satiated trials, indicating that it is a reward expectancy about the goal box rather than a running habit which has become “functionally autonomous”, acting as a situation-specific drive.  相似文献

The effect of training on the rate of behavior-specific praise for two fourth-grade teachers was investigated within a multiple-baseline design. Training teachers to identify instances of behavior-specific praise on videotaped presentations (discrimination training) combined with instructions to use praise, and audiotape recordings of the teachers' classroom interactions as feedback, increased the rates of behavior-specific praise. The experiments reported here were designed to determine if several general principles drawn from appetitively motivated discrimination experiments in standard laboratory apparatus might also apply to food-searching behavior under more naturalistic conditions. Food-deprived rats searched for food in an open observation area. Choice behavior after finding food and after not finding food was analyzed. In all cases, not finding food in a possible food location was sufficient to direct subsequent search behavior away from that location for the remainder of the day's test. Finding food had variable effects on subsequent choice behavior, depending on the number of locations that actually contained food and the number of days food was in one location before being shifted to another. The results indicate that the rat's search strategy was influenced by food availability and distribution in ways that are predicted by discrimination learning experiments.  相似文献
