Studied the degree to which skewed score distributions can affect the interpretation of Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities (ITPA) (Kirk, McCarthy, & Kirk, 1968) subtest scores. Indices of skewness were determined for the 10 main ITPA subtests for each of the eight age groups which comprised the normative sample (Paraskevopoulos & Kirk, 1969). The ITPA normative sample was drawn from children, both male and female, having abbreviated Stanford-Binet IQs between 84 and 116 and ranging in age from 2 years 7 months to 10 years 1 month. The results indicate that the following subtests were most seriously affected by scale limitations: auditory reception, auditory association, visual reception, manual expression, and grammatic closure. The results suggest that indices of score variability such as average deviation and standard scores must be interpreted with extreme caution when skewness is a significant factor.  相似文献

Summary: Rorschach test protocols for a matched sample of male and female subjects in the child and adolescent age range were scored for total responses. The data were analyzed for evidence of interactions between sex of experimenter and sex and age of subject. Consistent differences in total numbers of responses elicited by different examiners were identified. The productivity of both male and female subjects was found to be significantly more variable for male experimenters than for female experimenters. Alternative explanations for the results include greater structuring of the test situation by female experimenters or greater variability of behavior by male experimenters in relation to different subjects. That these explanations can also account for the sex interactions reported by others is recognized.  相似文献

The major objective of the current investigation was to provide an evaluation of the validity of the ITPA for language-impaired children using confirmatory factor analysis. In addition to an examination of the validity of the traditional ITPA models, a new model is tested. The new model is based on considerations of the structural complexity of the ITPA subtests. and allows one to interpret ITPA results in processing terms. The results suggest that four-factor models provided the best representation of the ITPA scores in language-impaired children. Compared with the traditional ITPA models, the new model showed either an improved or equal goodness of fit. Language-impaired children tested with the ITPA (n = 100) exhibited a profile pattern suggesting that subtests with low processing demands are "easier" than tests with high processing demands. Thus, the present study supports the contention that language-impaired children suffer from constraints on information processing.  相似文献

Urban and rural girls enrolled in second grades of a school system in the South were randomly assigned to black and white examiners to be tested on an individually administered intelligence test. The interaction of race of examiner, race of subject, and location of subject's home on test performance was investigated using a factorial design employing analysis of covariance. This interaction was not significant. However, as found in other studies, the white children as a group scored significantly higher than the black children. A discussion of conditions in which an interaction relationship may result is presented.  相似文献

Although difference scores are widely used in classifying children as learning-disabled, their psychometric properties are often not well understood. Such scores generally contain more error than single test scores. Reliability and standard error of measurement figures for several combinations of ability and achievement measures are presented. The rates and types of errors that occur when such scores are used to classify children as learning-disabled are discussed. Three recommendations for using difference scores are given: (a) combinations of ability and achievement tests that yield difference score reliabilities higher than .80 should be used when classifying children; (b) scores should be reported as a band of scores (± one standard error of measurement) to inform decision-makers regarding the amount of error estimated to be in the score, and (c) the criterion score for classifying the learning disabled should be set after consideration of the rate and types of errors likely to occur.  相似文献
