Abstract:Recent advances in microcomputer technology make it possible to monitor the internal state of the human operator in exotic environments with an ease and accuracy not imagined 10 years ago. It is now economically and technically feasible for many psychophysiologists to move out of the laboratory and apply their expertise to real-world problems. Two applications of psycho physiological methods to the study of pilot workload are described, one in simulated flight and one in actual flight.
