School culture: exploring the hidden curriculum

Abstract:Educators frequently overlook school culture. This article encourages teachers and administrators to gain a more complete picture of the school environment through an exploration of the symbolic nature of the hidden, or implicit, curriculum. A historical overview of the influence of the hidden curriculum on the educational process is presented. In addition, a checklist for examining symbolic aspects of the school environment is provided.
