A Note on Issues in Recent Work on One-Hand Catching

Whiting’s (1986) comments on the necessity of viewing the hand in one-hand catching are acknowledged, and several empirical issues are raised for consideration. These issues revolve around (a) the two components of one-hand catching, (b) lack of independence of position and grasp errors, and (c) specificity of skill.
