莱布尼兹与技术

莱布尼兹不仅是哲学家、数学家,而且还在科学技术上拥有许多重要发明.特别是他所发明的二进制,是所有计算机技术的基础.因此,把莱布尼兹看作信息时代之父并不是没有道理的.本文阐述了莱布尼兹在他的科学技术发明中所体现的系统论思想、科学工具化思想和他关于机器的比喻.作者进一步提出,在科技高度发展的今天,人作为具有自由本质的存在者,必须对自己的行动和技术后果负有责任.我们必须追问技术带来的弊端,并给予技术哲学以应有的地位.     

Comparison of flooding procedures in animals and man

Avoidance behavior in animals and man is contrasted in the context of “flooding” or “response prevention”. Some experimentally established parameters affecting fear reduction in rats are examined with a view to their relevance in modifying phobic behavior in man. Two case reports of patients treated by flooding are cited to illustrate the absence of avoidance or escape responses when these patients were exposed to situations they considered highly anxiety arousing before treatment.     

Regional cerebral blood flow response in a patient with remitted global amnesia

A case of remitted global amnesia, believed to have residual left medial temporal lobe damage, is tested by the same recognition memory paradigm used by Wood, Taylor, et al. in the previous paper. On two different testing occasions, once using an intentional and once an incidental memory procedure, the patient's right occipital flows were inversely correlated with memory accuracy and the values were very close to the regression line for 10 normals relating occipital flow to memory accuracy. The left occipital flows did not fit the regression line, however. The results were interpreted as consistent with the notion that occipital flow is inversely related to medial temporal lobe activation. Another surprising feature of this case is the unexpected persistence of amnesia for a period from about 5 to 10 years before her episode to about 2 weeks after the episode, with recovery of memory functioning for the period since that time.

Complexity theories are on the way to establish a new worldview—processes instead of objects, history and uniqueness of everything instead of repetition and lawlikeness are the elements. These theories from deterministic chaos via the dissipative structures, the theory of catastrophes, self organization and synergetics are mathematical models, connected with a new understanding of science. They are characterized by new fundamental commitments of sciences. But at the same time, they are characterized by epistemic boundaries. During my stay as a visiting professor at Dalian University of Technology in September 2006, I had the opportunity to deliver parts of this paper at North-Eastern University at Shenyang and at Beijing Normal University; a first draft has been presented at the IV. Russian Congress of Philosophy, May 2005, Moscow, and published as congress material as Knowledge and Society, edited by Ilya Kassavine, Moscow: Kanon 2005, 178–189.     

Acute pain in a clinical setting: Effects of cognitive-behavioural skills training

The present study evaluated the efficacy of cognitive-behavioural skills training, patterned after stress-inoculation training, as a preventive intervention for the attenuation of acute clinical pain during a noxious X-ray procedure—the knee arthrogram. Thirty-six adult male outpatients were randomly assigned to one of three groups: Skills Training. Attention-Placebo, and No-Treatment Control. An experimental pain test was administered before and after the interventions, as a generalization measure. Arthrogram pain was assessed by three dependent measures: patient's ratings, radiologist's ratings and videotape ratings completed by two‘blind’ raters. The results failed to support the efficacy of skills training for the attenuation of acute clinical pain, or its generalization to the experimental pain test. Although Skills Training subjects reported using significantly more coping strategies during the arthrogram. many subjects in the two control groups also reported using their own spontaneous strategies. Equivocal data were obtained on the role of ‘self-efficacy’ expectancies in mediating pain behaviour and experience. Experimental pain threshold but not pain tolerance was significantly related to acute clinical pain experienced during the arthrogram.     

The classical conditioning of sleep and wakefulness

Using a metronome beat as conditioned stimulus three cases are described in which this stimulus was presented in close temporal contiguity with experimentally-induced sleep or waking. Drugs or fatigue consequent upon sleep deprivation were used as unconditioned stimuli for sleep. One of the subjects was an anxiety neurotic, one had narcolepsy and the third was a student volunteer. No EEG indication of conditioned sleep was obtained but there was evidence of conditioned relaxation in the anxiety neurotic and conditioned arousal in the other two cases.
