Summary Subjects tracked intervals in a synchronization paradigm at interval durations of 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1,000 ms. The variability of intertap intervals (ITIs) shows a sudden increase near 300 ms. This increase is interpreted as indicating the transition from automatic to controlled movement. It is suggested that the sudden change in the variability of ITIs does not reflect the operation of different timing mechanisms at short and long intervals, but differences in the way in which attentional processes come to bear on movement initiation for different interval durations. In contrast to previous findings reported in the literature, a U-shaped function between interval duration and variability in the 300-to-1,000-ms range was not observed. 相似文献

Developing a scientifically grounded philosophy of cosmic evolution, and using the moral norm of completeness as dynamic harmony, this paper argues that humans are a part of nature in both its conserving and emergent aspects. To ignore any of the multifaceted aspects of humanity in relation to the rest of nature is to commit one of a number of fallacies that are grounded in a dualistic-conquest mentality. Higher education faculty worldwide experienced heightened stressors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from completing their professional roles and responsibilities virtually to balancing personal and professional stressors. Consequently, the pandemic created many adjustments for pre-tenure counseling faculty across research, teaching, and service. In response to this pandemic, we explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the personal and professional lives of four pre-tenure counseling faculty members. Accordingly, we used collaborative autoethnography to investigate our experiences and narratives as pre-tenure counseling faculty, which resulted in seven overarching themes. In a recent experiment on tonal masking, Macmillan (1971) reported that recognition of increments and decrements improves relative to detection performance as signal duration is increased. It is suggested that this result is largely artifactual, inasmuch as Macmillan’s Os undoubtedly detected brief-duration signals by virtue of energy splatter produced by gating the signal on and off rectangularly. An empirical study of test scores shows the variance of the errors of measurement to be significantly associated with true score in each of four groups studied; it also shows the distribution of the errors of measurement to be significantly skewed in three of these four groups. Use of true-score theory to predict moments of univariate and bivariate observed-score distributions
Formulas are derived for using the available item statistics and score statistics on a test to estimate the moments of the score distribution of a lengthened (or shortened) form of the same test. Other formulas are derived for estimating the bivariate moments of the scatterplot between two parallel test forms using only the data available on either form alone. An empirical study is made showing in each case satisfactory agreement between the theoretical values predicted from the formulas and the values actually observed.
